Eigentlich beherrschen iOS und macOS das offene AVIF-Format seit Jahren. Die Implementierung in der Nachrichten-App ist aber immer noch kaputt.

Skype is soon going to be no more: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/blog/2025/02/28/the-next-chapter-moving-from-skype-to-microsoft-teams/. For a proprietary app, it has done its job and lived a long 21-year life. Do you remember when MSN Messenger was replaced by Skype?
Meanwhile, some of my favourite IRC and XMPP-based IM tools from the '90s are still going strong in OSS land. Some can even handle 4K video calls without a hitch nowadays... unlike Microsoft Teams. Go figure. 
One thing I don't like about #Signal is that it only supports one mobile device per account. I know they want to make it easy for the average user. But for someone who has two phones, it's very limiting.
That's why I prefer #Matrix. Adding another device and decrypting all existing messages doesn't even feel so clunky anymore.

I don't really appreciate the new trend of sharing pictures from family events via #InstantMessaging (namely #WhatsApp). What people don't realize is that the pictures are so compressed and their quality so degraded that they're useless beyond viewing them in the app.
