What happened to #GoogleMaps? I am using it as a car navigation, and it didn't notify me about turning from the main road for 8 times on yesterday's 160km long trip. It got me quite pissed. I am used to paying full attention to the road and just listening for navigational instructions. But it was unusable yesterday. And it also suddenly zoomed out so much for a few times so I even couldn't distinguish the direction visually. 😤

Just wow... I've been lamenting for years that #GoogleMaps is the prime mechanism for #plannedObsolescence on #android. Every time they overbloat the app to the point where my phone can no longer usefully display it, I need a new phone.

But now they seem to be bloating it to the point where my 4 core/8 thread ryzen laptop cannot open it anymore without grinding to a halt?! Wtf?

So for some reason I'd like to know how long it takes to drive from Bayreuth to Cologne and I want to use alternatives to #GoogleMaps in #Germany.

#osmapp doesn't find Bayreuth even.

#MapCarta does better, but doesn't know Köln, the German name of Cologne. Think normal users, not nerds – they won't know the English names of these German cities that have English names, at least not of smaller ones.

#OpenStreetMap.de can do it.

However, openstreetmap.de does not have any sweet scraped meta data such as opening hours of places, or photos.

It's going to be a long way to a good Google Maps replacement.

I've recently started being very interested in #OpenStreetMap :osm: and have tried various #OSM apps.

The #GoogleMaps feature that I miss in OSM is clicking on a place and seeing a list of reviews and photos of the place.

Is there a project built on top of OSM that adds the functionally of adding reviews, and/or easily uploading photos of a place? And an app that shows these reviews and/or photos?
