My Agave titanota “Black and Blue” appears to be self-harming
Aus der Negev-Wüste soll bald Tequila kommen
Tequila kennt man eigentlich aus Mexiko. Ein israelisches Start-up will den Schnaps nun aus Agaven herstellen, die in der Negev-Wüste wachsen - in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Gazastreifen. Von Julio Segador.
Some lovely small, indoor agaves to bless your timeline
Endlich mal wieder Gartenwetter!
Roll call
Agave stricta (吹上): With numerous thin leaves, this is unlike any agave I’ve seen before. This was the most compact, symmetrical one.
Coryphantha elephantidens (象牙丸): I love the thick cotton at the top and the bulbous stems. The way the cotton flows into the creases on top of the stems is also interesting.
Haworthia “Tutankhamen”: Aside from the fanciful name, I was taken by the bright green color dotted with windows.
1 of our Saguaros is dying of bacterial necrosis so I documented it in my Perpetual Journal. You can read more about it & see even more recent photos on my latest blog post https://paulaborchardt.substack.com/p/a-colorful-cholla
Christmas tree, southern New Mexico style. It's actually a flower stalk from a wild agave (Parry's Agave). Sturdy and easy to store. We've been using the same one for more than a decade. #christmas #agave #NewMexico

Day 5
Here's my close-up photo of: Agave bovicornuta spines (Agave bovicornuta), showing why this plant is known commonly as 'Cow Horn Agave', Tucson, AZ, USA ©Carl R. Englander
A variegated Agave victoriae-reginae known as “Hyōzan” (氷山) in Japan. I repotted it along with some of my other indoor agaves the other day, and it seems that caused it some stress (the purple tinging).
It’s quite pretty when stressed but I hope I didn’t screw up by repotting so late in the year. I think it should be OK because the temperature is still consistently around 20℃.
Prima o poi doveva succedere.
