I stumbled upon an interesting blog today while searching for an image of the Silicon Graphics 3D cube logo. Named "Abort Retry Fail" by Bradford Morgan White, the blog's articles document computer history. I eventually wound up reading three of them.

Imagine an open source standard for real-time particle VFX editors in game engines.

It's cool that the film VFX industry has adopted open standards for scene files (USD), materials (Material X), and even visual effects plugins (OpenFX).

I'm daydreaming about an open source PopcornFX I think. It'd be cool to integrate Houdini and JangaFX for real-time fluid sim support.

I don't want to learn the quirks of an editor every time I switch engines too.

Curiously, how does Davinci Resolve train its AI features? Not sure how to frame the question. It calls them neural engines, but with DR20 I hear of some features that were more common in generative AI, like the thing to replace and alter voices.... So where does it get its data? Anyone knows?

🎆 Bevy Hanabi v0.15.0 is out!

Following the usual release pattern, v0.15.0 is a major release with amazing new features:

➡️ New "hierarchical" effect feature allowing with GPU spawn event, to allow an effect to trigger particle spawning into another effect
➡️ A rewrite of the ribbons/trails implementation with explicit particle sorting. This replaces the confusing "group" API.
