Can we do $500 today? #mutualaid is very essential right now, and heavily appreciated as we build our home, our workspace, our rescue and escape vehicle, our self sufficiency and more all in one.

I was so fed up with Ilha Madeira still producing electricity with more than 70% fossils, 53% of that diesel (*triplefacepalm*), I couldn't wait to get off of it.
Smol money, smol start :)

No battery charging from the grid. For the time of the shutoff the city grid is switched on. (Whatafight! -.- The installing company fought tooth-and-nails to prevent me from getting off-grid. It cost me more than two months to finally also get a manual grid power-off-switch - electronically not overridable by the remote of the company.) Unfortunately the house hasn't got the best position. It is facing North, with the roof to West and East and a hill in its back to South, which will not allow full capacity of the panels especially in winter. System description Phase II 4 more panels and a lot of improvements. Separate manual emergency shutdown switches for the solar panels, batteries, the grid power and the solar power. In case of fire or flooding, for safety of the firemen and/or neighbors. Phase III 4 more panels, the east side of the roof is now fully covered, + a 3,5kW battery gets me to 11kW. Well, the west side of the roof still has room for improvements ^.^ maybe next year... 4 solar panels SHARP 415 Wp mono (1,722 x 1,134 x 35 mm) 1 LiFePO4 battery PYLONTECH US3000C 3.55kW Because we have endless Sun here I also have in mind convincing the neighbors to do an independent micro-grid. The neighbor below me in the valley got a new roof this summer. Maybe she is interested to get some panels for herself, those are rather cheap. She does not necessarily need to go off grid on batteries, since those are pricey. In summer, when I'm not here, she can have my solar electricity for free, in the winter we can exchange, whoever gets more sun. The neighbor above me also has a nice empty roof ^.^ I asked her, if she wants to participate, she will think about it. Unfortunately the house to my left is abandoned since forever, no chance to connect :'(

Shelling this year's harvest of fava beans. I didn't know what #fava beans or also called "broad beans" were a couple years ago, but I found them while looking for food to grow that can save water use, that is, like plants from Mediterranean climate zones. They not only grow well during our Winter rainy season in So Cal on little supplemental irrigation but help improve soil fertility. They are also a plant that has been grown for 10,000 years. Why you don't see these in our McGrocery stores is explain by online search as this: They need to be shelled and then preferably par boiled and skinned. Oh no! Work. They are delicious, though, even raw, and they are nutritious. They taste more like peas than beans. Gonna probably make some hummus with this batch.

WHY DO I HAVE SO MANY GODDAMN TOMATO SEEDS?

Anyway, of these... which ones are your favorite, or which would you like to try?

My favorites are the Sungold's and the Super Sweet 100s.

My goal is to make and sell things at farmers markets, and my little farm stand (that I didn't put up at all in 2023, whoops!).

Tomatoes are not all I grow... but I will never not be surprised at how many different types of tomatoes I have when I take my seed stock at years end.

If you had a decent amount of 'fuck you' money... what would you do with it?

I want to make an intentional community on lots of land thats both wooded and able to be farmed... hopefully with a river.

I want to have a bunch of year-round yurts in the woods... all connected by wood planks. Some bigger, some smaller.

I'd want people to be able to live in some of the yurts... whether as couples, families, coliving... whatever-- and then I'd want the other yurts to be 'community room' type things. A kitchen, a dining room (maybe together), a rec room or a few, things like that.

On the farmable land, we would do just that-- animals and fruits and vegetables. We would use as much of all of our bounty as possible. The rest could be donated, preserved, composted... etc etc.

I still want an intentional community, and I want to make as much of this come true as possible. I guess I just need the fuck you money.
