The core of the system is a text database, which I manage in VSCode with the related extension, and of course I store the file in Github private repo.From Beancount is derived excellent graphical reports system called <a href="https://mastodon.africa/tags/Fava" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Fava</a> - you don't have to use it, but it's also very cool.For me, the spin-off value from Beancount is that, being a text database, it also functions as my diary. I can and do annotate it. My journal begins in 2009 and is uninterrupted. I want to push that to one of my hosts. That host should run the <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/fava" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#fava</a> software and automatically update its checkout (and restart fava) after I pushed to it. Having a bare repository and a checkout for hosting is ok, the checkout should be a shallow clone in this case (dont need the history for serving a specific commit/latest master).Of course I want to conf all that using nix. Tim MooreShelling this year's harvest of fava beans. I didn't know what <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/fava" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#fava</a> beans or also called "broad beans" were a couple years ago, but I found them while looking for food to grow that can save water use, that is, like plants from Mediterranean climate zones. They not only grow well during our Winter rainy season in So Cal on little supplemental irrigation but help improve soil fertility. They are also a plant that has been grown for 10,000 years. Why you don't see these in our McGrocery stores is explain by online search as this: They need to be shelled and then preferably par boiled and skinned. Oh no! Work. They are delicious, though, even raw, and they are nutritious. They taste more like peas than beans. I might try again these days since the temperatures will probably stay above -5° until spring and these beans supposedly survive mild frosts.
