#pepper #gardening update:

The last frost was a few days ago and spring is in full bloom! It's a bit late this year, but I figured it's worth putting the seeds in late than never

Yesterday I put a variety packet in the small planter on my front porch, I figured they'd give a nice sight to people walking by

Just now, I cleaned out two out of the three "planters" I have in my back yard (poorly sawed plastic tubs) that I used for tomatoes last year. I put white habanero in one and multiple colors of cayenne in the other!

Tomorrow if the weather is nice I'll continue some outdoor gardening but otherwise I'll be doing some research online for some affordable grow lights, I'm looking to transform my (unfinished and ugly) basement into a psudo greenhouse

Easy Pepper Steak

Ingredients
Sauce
½ cup soy sauce low sodium
¼ cup rice vinegar or less, if you don't like the vinegar taste
1 tablespoon brown sugar packed
2 tablespoon cornstarch
Stir Fry
2 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound flank steak sliced thinly against the grain
¼ teaspoon salt or to taste
½ teaspoon pepper freshly ground
1 medium onion sliced
1 medium red bell pepper thinly sliced
1 medium green bell pepper thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic minced

Instructions
Make the sauce
Combine Ingredients: In a small bowl combine all the sauce ingredients together and set aside.
Stir Fry
Prep the Steak: Season the flank steak with salt and pepper in a bowl.
Cook the Steak: Add 1 tbsp of the vegetable oil to a skillet and heat over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned steak and spread it evenly in the skillet. Cook for 1 minute without touching it, then use a spatula to stir the meat around. Continue cooking for another minute then transfer to a plate.
Cook Veggies: To the same skillet, add the remaining tbsp of vegetable oil and add the peppers and onions - cook for about 4 to 5 minutes or until softened.
Add Sauce: Return the beef to the skillet and add the garlic. Cook for 30 seconds until the garlic is aromatic. Pour the sauce over everything. Stir and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute until thickened.
Finish and Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds if preferred and serve over cooked rice.

Lombardo, King of the North, Early Red en Ferenc Tender.

Last year I have grown with succes peppers with the Denomethod. So this year I would try this again.
Pict 1, 2 & 3: At 6 febr I started with 4 different peppers: Lombardo, King of the North, Early red and Ferenc Tender. I taped the packages with the seeds to our modem.
Pict 4: At 12 febr are the first roots visible
Pict 5 & 6: At 22 febr there are roots and leaves. Time to pot them on. They are in the windowsill now with an extra transparent lid for more warmth.
Pict 7: At 9 March you can see the first roots. Now I am getting more and more hopeful that we really can eat again our own grown peppers this year.
More info of the Denomethode you can find here:

It is in Dutch, but there are good pictures.
Do you grow your own peppers?

@catsalad @Tattooed_Mummy @_L1vY_ I am a proud #chilihead and I endorse this message 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
I have a variety of spicy #pepper flakes that I sprinkle on pizza (and many other foods). There are some good mixes out there that let you dial in both the heat and flavor. Carolina #Reaper flakes are the hottest I’ve encountered. I recently had flakes from my daughter’s home grown Madame Jeanette peppers (see chart) and those were very tasty!
