Doge has attacked the NCA now

We've found out today that DOGE has shut down all new contracts in solicitation and not yet awarded for the National Cemetery Administration. This is causing panic because we're being told that we will have to perform the work the contractors would be performing. At our Cemetery the ground maintenance contract is in solicitation and our current contract ends at the end of the month. At the National Cemetery Administration we serve our nation's veterans. We perform interment and committal services for veterans and their dependents. Without contractor help we will be forced to keep up the grounds, set headstones, janitorial, and it will mean we cannot do burials and services. There's also no overtime so this will lead to longer wait times and worse service for our nation's heroes. People need to know what's happening. As a veteran I care deeply about our mission, and I'm deeply disturbed by what the Administration is doing here.

IRS managers received the following email from the IRS Human Capital Officer yesterday evening:Subject: IRS has paused the discontinuation of 4/10, 5/4-9 and Maxiflex work schedulesTo optimize IRS operations, the Acting IRS Commissioner and the Acting Chief Operating Officer recently issued memoranda directing the discontinuance of the 4/10, 5/4-9 and Maxiflex alternative work schedules (AWS). The implementation of these directives has been paused due to a recent court order, which issued a preliminary injunction on Executive Order 14251, Exclusions from Federal Labor-Management Relations Program.If you have employees who submitted a change to their AWS to comply with these directives, they may be permitted to revert to their previous schedule until further notice.For assistance, managers should contact Labor Employee Relations and Negotiations (LERN) via IRS Service Central or call the LERN support gate to speak to an HR Specialist at 1-866-743-5748, Option 1, and Option 6.

Help me explain why it's not "just a job"

I'm a DOI scientist who is expecting it to finally end next week. I thought I was resigned but I'm not doing well at all. Ok, let me put that differently. My body is shutting down and I can't stop crying. I was trying to explain this to a dear friend who manages a large team at a big tech company. This is someone who genuinely cares and was trying to be supportive, but I can't seem to convey what this feels like. I especially want to find words for them, and for everyone else, about why this is not just me being one more person being laid off from a job. How do you explain what being a civil servant (and scientist) and having it end this way is like?

It still blows my mind that EPA is going through this massive reassignment process to circumvent proper procedures and no one seems to...care?

I've heard from a friend at EPA that those in ORD were given this week only to apply to lateral reassignments. They were given no information about the fate of ORD and no information about things they were applying for. And this seems to all circumvent proper procedure so that politicals can pick whoever they want. And no one seems to care this is happening? I haven't seen any news calling this out and talking about the fact that candidates aren't being judged at all on merit and instead are just being chosen by politicals however they want? This is just nepotism and is happening right now and no one seems to be bothered by it.How did we get here?

2 hours, 45 minutes. Left at 5, home just a bit before 8.Wtf? I had a commute earlier this week that took me 2 hours.
