Now what?I'm in a bit of a predicament and could use some opinions. I received my RIF notice on April 1st with a termination date of June 2nd. So I hustled, applied to hundreds of jobs, got a few offers and ended up accepting a remote job with equivalent pay. I definitely recognize I'm super lucky and this is not the norm! But if I'm honest, after about a month of crying and feeling sorry for myself, I've started looking forward to finally being done with the government and receiving severance pay plus leave payout. Now with the news of the TRO and potential holdup of the RIF, I'm feeling stuck. I don't want to give up the new job because I have a feeling the RIF will happen eventually, however if I quit I give up the severence (which was going to be about 35k, plus a leave payout of about 15k) and the possibility of backpay if any lawsuits happen. Again, I am in no way complaining and I understand that if the RIF is delayed I and everyone else affected will get to keep their benefits and pay for a while longer. I'm not wishing for the RIF to go through or anything like that. What would you do? Accept the new job and quit the fed if the TRO is extended? Turn down the new job and hope for the best? I am not permitted to use the fridge, microwave, office supplies, or printer. I can only use my hotspot, not even the guest WiFi. I have zero claim to conference room space, even if I reserve in advance, should any “regular” staff member need it for any purpose (like sitting there filing their nails or just hanging out). I am in a room several other RTO’d feds. I have been referred to as a “squatter” and “refugee.” The established employees are reporting any perceived infraction of these rules or unwritten ones, for which we are admonished in an unprofessional and hostile manner. I know it’s better than moving to DC, but I’m so disappointed with this situation. What on earth is going on? I am from the same agency, just a different bureau. Why are fellow feds being so awful, and making a hard time worse for everyone? The fed worker pipeline of hiring highly qualified younger folks to be trained and replace departing retirees now getting mangled and trashed by the Duffus Orangeman. I learned recently that a friend’s son who graduated from a top 5 law school will be leaving federal service voluntarily after a few years despite it being his dream job rather than work under miserable working conditions with the continual fear of the DOGE ax falling. His well-honed specialized legal skills soon to be lost to the citizens of America. I was attacked by trumper trolls on change my view where they aggressively defended flotus and said "What you don't like diversity? Clearly Melania's post was celebrating diversity in her garden"...I almost fell over reading that..like are these people completely blind to how he slashed DEI and EEO not to mention the obliteration of workplace benefits that help working mothers or do they all suffer from short term memory loss and forgot that they all celebrated these things when they were announced.Those under the admin's trance have said the garden blooming is symbolic of how trump is uprooting the foundation of America to make it better, just like how Melania uprooted the garden to make it more beautiful than ever. I am more inclined to think that there is no symbolism behind this and her actions just show how out of touch this "queen" is. Many mothers don't even know if they'll have enough money to plant flowers. Glad you have all the time in the world to gaze at a beautiful rose garden as your husband continues to punish working moms daily by aggressively executing workplace policies that hurt working moms and their children, my queen...To me, this kind of behavior is akin to that of Marie Antoinette. She rubs it in to her critics that now the garden is pretty even though she wasn't the one doing anything to the garden it was the workers and botanists that did it. All this, while her husband continues to drain his idea of "swamp creatures" who are those dirty working middle classers who he thinks got too comfortable being treated like humans who deserve benefits at the workplace.The federal workers are punished first and exploitation will run rampant when all is said and done. I created a throwaway so I could give my two cents of what EVERY fed employee should remember: we are so much smarter than they are. Stephen Miller would almost certainly be fired from my GS-12 job for incompetence. Trump is illiterate. These people are evil, but they are also STUPID. Which means we can outsmart them. Here’s how I have started doing that: I have combined all of my knowledge about what my job is and how to do it into a document on my personal computer, including GS level, supervisory structure, job aids, document templates, other contacts i typically work with, you name it. These fuckers are trying to eliminate years of organizational know-how, and I won’t let them. I have also started (although it’s going slow) doing a cost benefit analysis on my work to prove that it generates more value for people than my salary costs. Basically, if we have a future as a nation, I want someone to be able to know how this role functioned and be able to justify it being re-added in the future. Drop your ideas below of how we can make progress here. And even if you don’t have any, and you’re feeling torn apart about all this, remember that YOU know right from wrong, and you are absolutely smarter than they are, and that will prevail in the end, even if that end is a long time coming.
