Today in Labor History February 28, 1933: Erich Mühsam, was arrested and blamed for the Reichstag fire. The fire was actually set by Marinus van der Lubbe, a Dutch council communist.
Mühsam was sent to the Oranienberg concentration camp, where he was tortured and murdered. Mühsam was an anarchist, poet and playwright who condemned Nazism and satirized Hitler. In the wake of the fire, President von Hindenburg issued the Reichstag Fire Decree, suspending civil liberties, and launching a "ruthless confrontation" with the Communists, making the fire pivotal in the establishment of Nazi Germany. They went on a witch hunt, mass-arresting Communists, including members of Parliament, crippling their participation in the March 5th special elections, which allowed the Nazi party to expand their plurality in parliament. Hitler had called in hopes of moving the Nazi party from a plurality to a majority through quasi-legal means. Sound familiar?

Letztendlich war es Otto Wels, der die letzte freie Rede im #Reichstag hielt, der bis zuletzt unter der parteipolitischen Flagge der #SPD klarstellte, dass man uns Freiheit und Leben nehmen kann - die Ehre aber nicht!

Dieser Kampf gegen den #Rechtsruck findet auf der Straße also genauso statt wie in den Parlamenten. Und damit meine ich nichtmal den #Bundestag oder die Landtage. Auch #Kommunalpolitiker tun das - so wie ich. Und das ist eine öffentliche Sache. Ich muss mich dafür nicht schämen.

Today in Labor History January 13, 1920: Security police working for the Social Democratic government in Germany slaughtered 20-42 workers in the Reichstag bloodbath. The massacre occurred as left-wing socialists and the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) were demonstrating for unrestricted organizing powers. Around noon, workers left their workplaces, effectively shutting down Berlin’s largest companies, including Siemens and Daimler. At least 100,000 workers amassed in front of the Reichstag. According to some, protesters tried to force their way into parliament, when Sipo cops opened fire. However, demonstrators contend that the cops opened fire without warning and without provocation.

Far Right extremists are using artificial intelligence to reanimate #Adolf #Hitler online for a new generation,
recasting the Nazi German leader who orchestrated the Holocaust as a “misunderstood” figure
whose #antisemitic and
#anti-#immigrant messages are freshly resonant in politics today.


In audio and video clips that have reached millions of viewers over the past month on TikTok, X, Instagram and YouTube,
the führer’s AI-cloned voice quavers and crescendos as he delivers #English-language versions of some of his most notorious addresses,
including his 1939 #Reichstag #speech predicting the end of Jewish people in Europe.

Some seeking to spread the practice of making Hitler videos have hosted online trainings.

The posts, which make use of cheap and popular #AI #voice-#cloning tools, have drawn praise in comments on X and TikTok, such as
“I miss you uncle A,”
“He was a hero,” and
“Maybe he is NOT the villain.”

On Telegram and the “dark web,” extremists brag that the AI-manipulated speeches offer an engaging and effortless way to repackage Hitler’s ideas to #radicalize young people.

Vor 95 Jahren wurde die #NSDAP zum ersten Mal in den #Reichstag gewählt.

Ein Jahr später ist sie zum ersten Mal - als zweitstärkste Kraft - in eine #Koalition einer #Landesregierung gegangen.

Das war in #Thüringen.

Die #AFD wurde vorgestern eben dort zur stärksten Kraft, obwohl sie als gesichert #rechtsextrem eingestuft wird.

Die #Beweislage dazu ist - denke ich - dank dem Zentrum für politische Schönheit gut dokumentiert.

Who remembers #Christo wrapping the #Reichstag in #Berlin?
1995 it was. It was a big thing at that time.
A few weeks after the event a not-so-close friend gave me a plastic bag with about 50 pieces, 5 cm x 5 cm -all made of a plastc fabric and on one side silvery coated.
He told me he got this from someone he knew who worked for the Christo-team and that this bag contained pieces of the original wrapping.
Never found out if this was true.
This piece is the only one I have left.
