Intel's website suggests that Alder Lake-N and Twin lake chips only support up to 16GB of RAM, but users have long noted that 32GB SODIMMs work. Upgraded from 16 to 32 GB RAM on my 2018 Alienware Aurora R7 pc, which has only seen an SSD as an upgrade till now.
The difference is phenomenal. So snappy and smooth now.

Currently I am playing around with the Mango Pi Quad (#ARM) and the Mango Pi Pro (#RISCV) and doing a few comparisons.
Both have minimal #LXDE set ups and both have identical 1gig ram modules. On the Quad I am running #Debian 12 and on the Pro I am running #Ubuntu 24.10. So not necessarily and apple to apples compassion. But what I find interesting is that there is only a 13ish percent difference in #RAM use. The Quad after start up hovers around 25.1% ram use while the Pro hovers around 38.9%.
Maybe RISCV will catch up sooner than later with ARM. More random thoughts to come. Both are fun lil #SBC if you can get a hold of them.

I finally got my #Ubuntu desktop upgraded! I went from a first generation Intel Core i3 with 16 GB of RAM, to a fancy new motherboard and an 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 1700 with 64 GB of RAM.
I also replaced my measly Nvidia video card with 2 GB of RAM to a pretty decent GeForce GTX1650 with 6 GB of RAM.

You’ll really benefit from an SSD. When I replaced the #HDD in my computer a couple of years ago I was able to reduce the boot time of the operating system from ca. 11 seconds to roughly 3 seconds.
And in daily life you’ll also notice how fast applications will start.

El amigo Kubuntu tiene más de lo que necesito. No solamente ocupa espacio, sino que consume cpu y memoria también.
