@dhry @codemonkeymike @wamserma @amerpie That may not be true or fair to say about him at all, but it always cracks me up when #Linux users talk about hating Windows…and *also* hating any DE that doesn’t still have the Start menu/taskbar interface that Microsoft invented and introduced in 1995, even though they seldom admit they’re using a clone of the Windows interface, or give Microsoft credit. (Lookin’ at you, #LinuxMint 😉)

There's a lot of things #ArchLinux gets right, but a friendly configuration of #bluetooth is not one of them.

I did invest a lot of time connecting an USB speaker (#SoundCore2) , and an equal amount of time enabling the computer to send the sound through them. Why 2 steps? I'm afraid I can't answer that in a single post.

It's probably relevant to mention I've working (professionally) with #linux machines for about 20+ years now.

This is the only resource you need, BTW: wiki.archlinux.org/title/Bluet

As part of our volunteer-driven accessibility initiative in GNOME Calendar, and for the first time in the 10+ years of Calendar's existence, we finally completed and merged the first step needed to have a working calendar app for people who rely on keyboard navigation. This merge request in particular makes the event widgets focusable with navigation keys (arrow left/up/right/down) and activatable with space/enter. This will be available in GNOME 49.

Most of GNOME Calendar's layout and widgets consist of custom widgets and complex calculations, both independently and according to other factors (window size, height and width of each cell, number of events, positioning, etc.), so these widgets need to be minimal to have as little overhead as possible. This means that these widgets also need to have the necessary accessibility features reimplemented or even rethought, including and starting with the event widgets.

We also hope to get other parts of GNOME Calendar accessible before GNOME 49, but I can't promise anything at the moment. We did start working with making the month view accessible: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-c

GitLabMake the event widget accessible (!559) · Merge requests · GNOME / gnome-calendar · GitLabThis implements button functionality to make it able to focus and activate it. This also sets the appropriate accessibility role and labels/descriptions. Related:

I’ve noticed that when I enable the “Force Composition Pipeline” option in NVIDIA settings on my RTX 2070 running on X11, my system freezes shortly after starting any game which uses DXVK. This seems to be related to NVIDIA driver version 535 and newer.

The problem happens because DXVK 2.3 started using the VK_KHR_present_wait extension, which doesn’t work well with the composition pipeline enabled on these drivers. The freeze happens consistently and makes the desktop unresponsive within a couple of seconds after launching any game using DXVK.

I found a discussion about this issue on NVIDIA’s developer forums where it’s confirmed and reproducible.

- forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/

They still haven't fixed this. It's been years since 2023, yet NVIDIA's drivers still treat X11 like a beta test. Who needs open source love when you can just... not fix reproducible crashes?

(Their Vulkan support? More like Vul-can't, am I right?)

NVIDIA Developer Forums · Complete GPU crash on X11 with "Force Full Composition Pipeline" and VK_KHR_present_wait! 100% reproducible! This crash has been confirmed by Valve engineers. Steps to reproduce: NVIDIA driver 535+. I’ve tested this with RTX 2070 Super. But I assume every card is affected. Must be on X11. Enable “Force Full Composition Pipeline” in NVIDIA Settings. Use DXVK 2.3 release, which has whitelisted the usage of VK_KHR_present_wait on NVIDIA drivers. Play any game that uses DXVK. The desktop will freeze 1-2 seconds after the game opens up and there is no way to unfreeze it. There are two discussions about ...
