"URBANFLOW.art" #Physarum #Simulation

So my research and development is bearing fruit:
Today I tried out using my new physarum force with SDF-text in the form of our Media·Art studios name UrbanFlow.art
And together with several other forces this turned out beautiful!

"Stream of Consciousness" · Physarum simulation

From a diffuse field of feelings, ideas and outer impulses our mind creates streams, fields and rivulets of ideas and thoughts.
Some solve complex problems, some decide what to wear or eat, most are circular movements without a real purpose.

Quantum fields dancing.

Continued thread

The bottom one doesn't look so hot, I think I overdid it with the oats and some local is overcompeting it, looks fuzzy around the edges.

So:
- don't pile more food than it can chew
- use air filters (I'll try parafilm) and sterilize your tools better

Step 3 - It's Alive!

Slime mold woke up and moved out of its paper and onto the oat. It's nomming and growing now.

The two original sclerotia didn't activate, so I used 4 samples more with slightly different conditions. 2 of them are doing great, the others not so much.

I didn't properly measure or jot any data down, so this isn't Science, but now I have a general idea of how this works and I can go for precision next time.

8 year olds are better at this than me.

Step 2

The Physarum (I'm going to need 2 nicknames, feel free to contribute) was dormant on dry paper in its sclerotium form. I cut two pieces and added two drops of water to resurrect them. And some oats for breakfast.

Now we wait. Good luck, Phil and Phyllis.

Step 1

Preparing a couple of Agar petris for an art excercise. I'll be trying to grow Physarum polycephalum.

Considering this is my first attempt to kinda bioart, this could go from very wrong to somewhat not terrible. But it'll be fun sharing some pics.

In this recorded twitch stream from the PIKSEL 21 festival is an interesting presentation form Sarah Grant.

The talk starts at 1 hour 50 minutes in this stream with te title "networks as material"
After 5 minutes of introduction it gots very interesting.
In 1:55 its about Physarum polycephalum. Real world experiments with this slime mold Physarum she made.
