April 14: neither sight nor sound of White-crowned Sparrows in the backyard today.
Saw a Black-headed Grosbeak instead, briefly visiting the platform feeder. This is only the 2nd time ever I've seen one in our backyard.

Looking a little splotchy this morning. I'm pretty sure this is a Male American Goldfinch in the process of molting.
Is this beginning of a new friendship?

The flower buds are still progressing very slowly on the redbud tree. And -- oh! -- there's also a female Northern Cardinal on that branch...
Almost forgot! April 11: the "holdout" White-crowned Sparrow was sighted at the feeder this morning. :)
Letting this handsome Brown-headed Cowbird bring the sun vibes on yet another gray, rainy, colder-than-normal spring day. He’s got one tiny seed in his bill and one flying out of it.
A raven landed in the backyard. Both bipeds and quadrupeds were amazed! Huge bird! Far taller than pup. Beautiful creature. Still amazed by the size close up - I've only ever seen them from a distance.
April 9: audio & visual confirmation from the backyard feeders that the White-crowned Sparrows are still here.
I regularly fill this pebble filled water bowl, and was wondering whether the birds use it. This morning I saw these goldfinches. Question answered, the top-ups will continue. #birds #backyardbirds #goldfinch #finches #wildlife

A female (or immature) House Finch in the redbud tree. The redbud is still on hold with cool days and temperatures below freezing the last few nights. Last night: 26° F / -3° C.
