The #hummingbirds have been late this year. They usually start showing up in mid to late March on their northward migration through southeast #Texas. They finally started appearing a couple of weeks ago and even then just fleeting, sporadic visits. Finally in the last few days it seems a couple of them are hanging around, a male & a female, making repeated visits to our backyard feeders. This is the male ruby-throated.

#Bird. Bird. Bird is the word....

The Merlin app has been identifying western meadowlarks. While there are meadowlarks in my area, I've never seen or heard them around my house.

However, this started about the same time as starlings started showing up. And starlings mimic other birds...

So I think it's the damn starlings singing like meadowlarks!

A curse on the idiot who imported the birds of Shakespeare into the US in the 1890s!
