@shrugdealer $frnk / liberapay.com/exposur.es !

i'm building #offgrid, #resilient digital #community gardens / #commons like wikis, messageboards, etc to maintain access to knowledge and #communication during #climate #disasters or #repression!

AND

i'm working on a big migration for exposur.es, a safe haven for #queer, #trans, #disabled #artists, #SWers, #SexEducators, and others who have been the vicitm of #censorship on platforms like #Meta's #Instagram and #Bluesky from #Pixelfed to #Bonfire!

any and all support keeps these efforts going & growing!

@mutualaid

Liberapayexposur.es's profile - Liberapayexposur.es is a safe haven for artists to share their artwork unimpeded by censorship and liberated from exploitative corporations.

First bin assembled! The doggo was supervising and guarding against squirrels.

I'll probably store leaves in the second bin until I need the brown for the first bin. This is going to be super-lazy-composting where I dig up what's underneath to use - so basically a FIFO stack.

Ooooh...! Some really cool tips here! Well-thought out!

#ClimateChangeGardening: 12 strategies for a #resilient #garden

by Niki Jabbour

"#ClimateChange gardening is a set of tactics that make our yards and gardens more resilient to extreme weather as well as reduce our personal impacts on the climate. There are several ways to approach climate change gardening. You can use sustainable and organic gardening practices that put soil, #biodiversity, and #pollinators first. You can also plan to reduce plastic waste, up-cycle materials, and collect #rainwater.

3 reasons to care about climate change gardening

"Climate change gardening influences the health and success of your garden. When you nurture your soil, foster biodiversity, and support pollinators you create a garden that is more resilient to the challenges of climate change. Here are 3 reasons to care about climate change gardening.

- Extreme weather – The impact of weather related challenges like droughts, storms, precipitation, flooding, and above or below normal temperatures can be reduced with climate change gardening strategies.
- Pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects – Climate change can affect pollinators and birds in various ways. Weather extremes can impact migration timing and success, host plant growth and bloom time, disease and pest issues, and habitat and food supply.
- Non-native invasive pests and plants – With a longer growing season, invasive plants, pests, and diseases will move north and potentially affect plant health and crop yields."

Perhaps most importantly, how can we #collectively #build a more self-reliant and #resilient #economy that aligns with our principles and stands strong against external #threats?”

Actions like these give hope that the USA will not easily sink into fascism.

- Hundreds of angry emails poured in after a Republican official in Pennsylvania posted her own version of Elon Musk’s Nazi Salute. She resigned.

- After CBS58 fired a weather reporter for protesting the salute, users wrote, “People have the right to condemn Nazi salutes without being fired.”

Democracy is #resilient and will rebuke fascists. Democracy is us.

#Agroecology offers blueprint for #resilient farming in northern #Ghana

by Caleb Ahinakwah, 5 Dec 2024

Excerpt: "Alley cropping in practice: Healing the land

"As climatic conditions worsen, farmers in the region are turning to agroforestry techniques. One approach that has taken root, literally, in the Builsa area is alley cropping, which integrates trees with traditional farming practices. Tree Aid, an international nonprofit that works on forest and land restoration projects in Ghana and elsewhere, introduced this technique to farmers in the region in 2014. Farmers have planted rows of trees such as shea, baobab and moringa 12 meters (39 feet) apart, and continued to grow crops like millet, cowpeas and groundnuts beneath them.

"Yakubu Issah began planting baobab and shea trees on his farm five years ago. 'At first, it seemed like extra work with little reward. But now, our millet grows healthier, the soil holds water longer, and we even earn extra income by selling baobab leaves,' he said.

"He added that bees have returned, along with birds and squirrels: 'The farm feels alive again."'

"Viele wären auch gerne wie so eine Teflon-Pfanne, an der alles abprallt", sagt Resilienzforscherin Isabella Helmreich. Was irgendwie auch ein bisschen lustig klingt, hat aber einen ernsten Hintergrund zum Verständnis davon, was Resilienz eigentlich gerade NICHT bedeutet.
