Moon & Pleiades

On April 1st, 2025, between 20:45 and 23:45 (UTC), our moon passed in front of the Pleiades. Of course, our skies were completely cloudy, so I wasn’t able to capture the actual event, but due to the brightness of the moon compared to M45, creating a nice capture would have been complicated anyway.

Therefore, I used archive material (my M45 capture from November 2024 and the Moon from January 2022), to create an artistic composition of the event.

Ein ungewöhnliches #Himmelsschauspiel - für Besitzer von Ferngläsern und Teleobjektiven; für das bloße Auge ist der Mond schon zu hell geworden - wird sich in den kommenden drei Stunden auch in der sehr klaren Bochumer Nacht zeigen: Während er im Westen immer tiefer sinkt, nähert sich der #Mond dem Sternhaufen der #Plejaden, um schließlich ziemlich genau um Mitternacht genau vor ihnen zu stehen. Und wenn er um 1 Uhr untergeht, hat er den Sternhaufen schon wieder fast hinter sich gelassen.

The Seven Sisters ============== Located about 444 light years from earth, in the constellation of Taurus, the Plejades are among the closest star clusters to our sun and probably the most obvious one in the night sky, clearly visible to the naked eye and a great sight through binoculars. The cluster is visually dominated by seven hot blue stars, formed within the last 100 million years, moving together through a dust cloud in the interstellar medium, thus causing the famous blue reflection nebulae around them. It’s estimated that the cluster will probably survive for about another 250 million years, after which it will disperse due to gravitational interactions with its galactic neighborhood. De #maan gaat op 21 augustus #Saturnus bedekken. Op 26 augustus bedekt de maan de #Plejaden. Tussen 11 en 13 augustus is de piek van de #Perseiden meteorenregen. Mars en Jupiter zijn in conjunctie.
En hou ook de schaduwen van manen van Jupiter en Saturnus in de gaten (met een telescoop).
