For any #avgeek who wants to review the route #PhilippineMars WWII flying boat took on its last flight from Alameda CA to Lake Pleasant AZ, I entered into SkyVector an approximate route from the C-FLYK and N2871G tracking. Waypoints were just to estimate the spot on the map - I have no info on the crew's intended route since no flight plan was made public. It seemed they followed a combination of coastline, roads and airways. skyvector.com/?ll=36.584657605 #aviation #avgeek #pilot #mapgeek #history

"All maps are wrong" by Here & There, Kyle Frost - Neither #maps nor #GPS positioning are as precise as people often expect. Even with a good #navigation receiver, a track from a hike or ride has errors around the actual path taken. hereandthere.club/post/all-map #mapgeek #GNSS #tech

It would be so awesome to have a map nerd in the White House: “Walz tends to speak rapturously about the power of good maps to bring about social change. ‘I know I’m preaching to the choir, but the choir needs to sing,’ he told ESRI in 2024. ‘This stuff works. This stuff makes a difference. The map is wonderful to look at. It’s exciting.’”
