The cognitive path to somebody trying to have a good life in a challenging time but with low skills and thus colliding with "oops!" was surely hard to foresee.

"...the number of recreation-caused wildfires during summer [2020] was 36% greater than the 1992–2019 average; this increase was likely a function of increased outdoor recreational activity in response to social distancing measures."

Not as dramatic as other locations, but there's been a small fire burning on the lower slopes of the Coinneachan for a couple of days now. This evening, the layer of brown smog cloud was very apparent, lying low above the horizon for 180º round from Glen Turret to the Ochil hills.

I've just published a new page on my website documenting the last 3 months on an art residency exploring fire through the plant aiteann (gorse) and its relationship to sitka spruce: shanefinan.org/VAP/15_aiteann.

This was part of the international research project investigating wildfires called FIRECULT. For the project, I created charcoal and made new drawings, made work with fire, and created two new video artworks.
