It's been an inspiring week at SXSW EDU meeting talented, passionate, creative people who are raising the game for education. We were impressed with so many people and organizations we connected with. Today we want to shout out Building Utopia and their Afrofuturism-inspired speculative design toolkit. Have you commissioned or participated in, or otherwise encountered, speculative design futuring work (e.g. #DesignFiction) in a technology firm?

Seeking *voluntary* participants for an MSc (Master of Science) research project investigating non-designers’ experiences of speculative design futuring methods in #technology #research and #innovation, and perspectives on the benefits, impact and value of these methods.

The purpose of the research is to investigate research gaps that exist on:
1) non-designers’ evaluation of benefits, impact and value of speculative design futuring work, and
2) conditions that affect translation of speculative work into strategic impact.

Participation by interview. Full confidentiality assured throughout.
Summary of final dissertation will be shared with participants.

I just published a new essay:

»Design Against the Machine«

In my last design class, I made generative AI tools a requirement. My students had to use AI for every part of the design process. They created nonlinear narratives of the near future and explored speculative future scenarios through creative, experimental websites with (and against) the help of AI.
