What I want "AI" on my devices to do:
When replying to a mail, autocorrect the name of the person I am writing to. Use the data available to support me. Don't tell me how to write. Just remove common obstacles. Offer common patterns based on the context.

What big tech thinks I need from "AI":
"writ resume pls".

I'm wondering if there is a way to gather the notifications that arrive for various apps, and echo them in one preferred app, all within the device. A functionality that could added by installing one new app, with servers and apps otherwise working as normal.

"Project ScanGov now has a map that visualizes how U.S. states fare on government digital experience. Each state on the map is clickable to a full government digital experience report card. The grades are based on scans of state government website homepages and how each fares on key indicators."

I think I have wanted to paste *with* formatting maybe twice in my life. Every. Other. GODDAMNED. Time, I have wanted to just paste the DATA I copied from elsewhere, and have it match the place I'm pasting it into.

"Paste without formatting" should be the default. "Paste WITH formatting" should be the behavior you have to explicitly ask for.

“Human Interest” is terrible

Several years ago I worked for a company which outsourced management of their 401k to Human Interest. It was… not a positive experience. I don't remember all the details—I've worked pretty hard to forget them since they were so unpleasant—but suffice it to say that it was my impression that they weren't terribly good at any aspect of the work they needed to do as a company.

@scottjenson Your comment that "[n]ew UX models have friction" is impressively calm and collected, considering the merits of this design. 😏

I wish that, as designers, we'd adopt our own complement to "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it." Something like "If a design works really well for users, don't mess with it."

Too often these days, it seems that it's not about actually improving #UX, but coming up with some "new and different." Which usually doesn't really help, does it? 🤔

Scott's very valid everyday #UX concerns aside, I'm sure these designs are "loved deeply" by emergency responders everywhere.

After all, which firefighter or EMT doesn't appreciate a a door "handle" that is useless if onboard power isn't available, or if any of the electrical components inside the door fail. And who really needs an attachment point for a winch or crowbar to unjam a crushed door after a crash. 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

This is not just bad #IxD. It's plain dangerous. 😡 social.coop/@scottjenson/11438

social.coopScott Jenson (@scottjenson@social.coop)Attached: 1 image New UX models have friction. The Mach E has a push button door: push the button first, pop the door. It works once "you've read the manual" Two problems: 1. As I approached the car at Avis it was dark, I couldn't see the button at all so couldn't get in, I had to ask someone to let me in. 2. When I picked up my son at the airport, he had no idea how to open the passenger door so I had to open it from the inside. Ford may keep this, but it's going to be a painful road. #ux

I wish it was possible for devices to intelligently classify notifications and mute them. Like I do like to want to be notified about change of plans, but I don't want to have 15 people respond with 'works for me'. That's just noise.
