@staringatclouds @androcat it is, to scare people off like Section 28 did to me.
I felt I had to fit in and be Straight, for an easier life.
It was a cruel, poisonous lie.

The British State hates Queers, always has, always will
@tofugolem ...now remembering how Section 28 and toxic 90s masculinity told me "you must not enjoy playing as Chun li, and if you do, it's because you want to fuck her"
Sigh.
@Jem_of_Oz Thatcher gave this Queer kid Section 28 and stole my Queer youth. I will never forgive her for what she did and I am wary of anyone who does.
I see them as homophobes.
I was nine years old when U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher gave her infamous speech on family values at the 1987 Conservative Party conference. She expressed outrage that children were being taught that they had “an inalienable right to be gay.”

"Teacher not supportive of Queer students, UK wants to bring back Section 28 to make the Queers suffer"
You only have to look to America to see where the Just Asking Questions narrative goes, genital inspections for sports kids.
So what you're saying is, Section31 is to Star Trek what Skrillex is to Dubstep?
@kibcol1049 kinda how the amount of Queer kids exploded when we were allowed to be Queer kids. That was after me unfortunately, Section 28 told me I was sick and wrong for being Bi. I look at queer kids being themselves now (when they aren't being attacked online) and see what was stolen from me by bigotry.
I don't see Britain ever apologising for that, which is why I don't feel British, I'm the 'Other'
Floating the idea of cross-posting the website blogs on a platform such as #Medium. Potentially, there's more engagement there than simply on a blog. Thoughts?

If Americans can take Abortions away from Women after 40 years the Brits will surely reinstate Section 28 after 21 years.
They'll reply to the problem of Trans kid suicides by saying it's Queer People's fault for giving them 'bad ideas' and the way to solve that is to ban Queer people talking to Queer Youth, ie Section 28 again.
And it'll happen with barely a squeak in the Press, because they've always hated Queers.
They get a Queer to harm trans youth, then he uses is own experience of institutionalized bigotry with Section 28 to justify doing the same to Trans Youth, then proclaiming his is the fountain of all knowledge on trans matters and everyone else is being political.
This is what Britain looks like to me, a bitter hateful lie and if you want to progress in this awful culture you must become a bigot, you MUST
@rachel I hate that man, I lived through Section 28 like he did and to see him twist that experience and use it to harm trans kids is to me the act of an evil man and I hope bad things happen to this guy.
Fuck this Queer traitor cunt
using the pain of our lives under Section 28 to justify doing the same to Trans Children
I wish the Cancer had killed Wes Streeting, he is so disgusting to me I would like to see him suffer and die

— the English translation of which was the primary excuse given for #Section28 , which banned an entire class of books, other materials, and verbal discussion in schools for over a decade.
I missed the anniversary of the repeal of #Section28 - well, in the majority of the UK - Kent, where I grew up being the exception.
I thought I’d share this #BlogPost I wrote about the effects of Section 28 on me personally, and why I do what I do in #ELT and #Education.

By the way, it was 21 years ago today that #Section28 was finally repealed in England & Wales.
It’s LGBTQIA+ STEM Day!
Just a quick post to point out that today is LGBTQIA+ STEM Day, which aims to celebrate to celebrate the work of LGBTQIA+ people in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM), but also to highlight the barriers still facing us.
For more information see here.
This also provides an opportunity for me to send my best wishes to all LGBTQIA+ staff and students at Maynooth and around the world!
P.S. I’m reminded that it was 21 years ago today that Section 28 was finally repealed in England and Wales.
@Patricia This old ugly Thatcher? She and others made laws forbidding promotion of lesbian/gay organisations. #section28
That was/is a sort of britain fascism.
Some EU countries try to rollback many human and queer rights.
We should fear #fascism coming dressed as #democracy
