@amapanda I once resolved one of these by documenting my inventory of Rensselaer county (NY) highways (done for #openstreetmap ) on my own website and then citing the page. No one ever said a word.
The #OpenStreetMap wiki has a good guide for #Wikipedia editors, explaining some of these important differences in how the 2 projects differ.
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Welcome_to_Wikipedia_users
One of the big differences between #Wikipedia and #OpenStreetMap is that in WP original research is banned, and in OSM, it's our gold standard!
You don't need to find 3rd party references before you can add something to OSM. “I went there and looked at it (here's a photo)” is not only the OK, but actually _better_ than (e.g.) a newspaper article!
I've been driving an #EV for a few weeks, learning where to get charged without being overcharged. Online maps available include vehicle built-in (which I've stopped subscribing for updates, so stale), goog, and #OsmAnd. A brave new world. So far, I've installed *6* apps for charger providers (and deleted 1), and started a personal #GIS data map for local chargers. Prices and terms vary; this week found one that charges by time ("parking fee") rather than by watt.
Not on #OpenStreetMap (yet).
Google sent a Newsletter about Google Maps with the headline «Working together to keep Maps trustworthy» — which feels extra ironic coming from a company that's made their maps continuously worse, partially thanks to cramming "AI" mindlessly into it.
Thanks but no, I'll continue keeping #openstreetmap trustworthy instead.
OSMlanduse a dataset of European Union land use at 10 m resolution derived from #OpenStreetMap and Sentinel-2
I was searching for an #googlemaps alternative for rating places but based #openstreetmap data
For example the Eifel Tower:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/9fxtCpPF8WB71ZwX6
A friend told me about #mapy that does pretty the same with OSM data.
Ofc it is not used that much in comparison to gmaps:
https://mapy.com/s/kelazoboma
Even if this is a company driven service, I will give it a try.
Do you know about other tools to cover this part of #googlemaps ?
A bit of #unplugtrump might also be a valid reason here.
Thanks to all who attended the 16th #OpenStreetMap #Delhi Mapping Party!
Both the remote and the mobile parties had 14 participants each, for a total of 24 unique participants.
Following the string of recent parties with exclusively male participants, we were glad to see a significant number of women again.

@stk
@ultrazool @smsm1 I used to use PlusBus tickets a lot, and probably would still in Scotland. With the Senior Railcard you get (got?) the same discount as for train tickets.
My only pain point was working out the zones. Most maps online are fairly useless, probably because they're based on the same Naptan polygons imported into #OpenStreetMap

Hey #Oakland & #Berkeley: I #georeferenced the 1852 Julius Kellersberger "#Map of the Ranchos of Vicente and Domingo #Peralta" using #QGIS. I've exported a 300dpi (zoomable) image of it with some transparency and a modern #OpenStreetMap base map, so you can see how it relates to the modern world.
I will write a blog post about it, with zoomed-in sections, but for now, a few observations:
* There are some very old roads.
* Why the streets and neighborhoods are cattywampus.
* Domingo's home (cordornices) is a landmark, as is Vicente's preserve.
* The brothers had a road between their homes, mostly gone, but traces remain. Vicente Way at Claremont Ave is the beginning.

I'll also upload a 72 dpi version here, but the useful version is at the google drive link. It's big. You might want to download it.
One of the reasons I did this was because of "Brik Kilns" at Adams Point, where the Grand Lake Theater is, now. I've been researching #bricks ...
@ultrazool I'll have to dig out my #OpenStreetMap survey photos of Doncaster & Rochdale town centres from back in 2018. Plenty of that plus rough sleepers everywhere as the shops closed for the evening.
Seen in Slab Square (Nottingham) last week.
