Sometimes I see @alternativeto pushing quite a lot of commercial software and wonder about the perceived shift of perspective.

#CAD #CAM for example: Artsoft's Mach3 & Mach4 are listed separately as controllers, but not the #FreeSoftware #OpenSouce alternative #UGS?! Even #YouTube is better in the case of #CNC since the existence of #UniversalGCODEsender isn't censored (like covid).

Please, stop the progress of #enshitification and save the much appreciated website with more #GPL alternatives. TY

The LLM crawlers are in the same league as spammers. They cause the service operators (and, by extension, the society) to devote massive resources to fight the scourge. Resources that could otherwise be used for something productive.

If making the source code public attracts this kind of parasites, I'm concerned about the long-term viability of open source.

Already we are seeing Chinese companies take a different approach to AI development from OpenAI, Meta, and Tesla. Rather than building a moat protected by high Capex investment, proprietary software and high profit margin, DeepSeek, Alibaba, Unitree and BYD are developing an ecosystem through open sourcing, engineering optimization, and free/low-cost software. The goal is to drive quick adoption, scale and fast iteration, thus achieving long term market share gains.

I'm a candidate for #OpenSouce Initiative Director, “Affiliate district” . I got an unsolicited email (late PM, FRI 2025-03-07) from an Affiliate (their Executive Director is someone I've known them since circa 2003) & they told me they voted for me as #1. #OSI told candidates election ran *at least* 10 days including two weekends, but apparently it was actually 6.5 days & only one weekend.
