In macOS 15.4, with the latest ARK, it was necessary to turn off System permissions to access the microphone for (Audio Hijack and) Audio Routing Kit (ARK), allow quit & relaunch, then turn on permission again, allow quit & relaunch, in order for the Mac to see virtual audio devices in Loopback. It didn't matter that Permissions sections of apps had permissions installed.

Symptom is that Loopback devices appear missing when running Audio Hijack tasks.

Today I tried the #ALSA #loopback soundcard to be used by #Pipewire and to get the audio back from it again into #Jack using alsa_in.

I failed. Should be possible, but I don't get it.

Btw., this was exactly what #kxStudio on #Kubuntu 18.04 was doing for ALSA and Pulseaudio, and it worked for years for me.

Pipewire replacing all of this seems like a good idea, because it was overly complicated, and out of formerly three separate audio subsystems, only one (Pulseaudio) would do Bluetooth audio.

So if there ain't no magic happening to the loopback idea, I might still use an HDMI audio extractor, use my graphics card as a consumer sound card with Pipewire, feed the SPDIF signal from the HDMI/extractor via a hardware sample rate converter back into my 01v96i mixing console.

I'm inclined not to toot this. This is only to be read by Linux nerds. Other recording/audio nerds will laugh their heads off.

Finally figured out how to #chromecast audio from non-chromecast capable apps on my #Ubuntu machine (#Plexamp). #Pulseaudio and the pulseaudio-dlna component make it almost as easy to use as #LoopBack on my #Mac

Seriously, the only thing I’m really missing on this machine now is @ivory, and I could make do with an alternative #mastodon app if only there were timeline position sync (there used to be an open one for Xwitter back in the day, would be nice to see something similar for mastodon)
