First up - some #hydrology and #catchment science in "Linking landscapes and riverscapes in a changing world: 60 years of ecohydrological studies in a #Scottish #Salmon stream."

Presenting author Chris Soulsby describes how they're using traditional #catchment science techniques, water quality and temperature sensors, to help land managers find ways to rebuild the salmon population in rivers which have seen deforestation.

"Decoding Nature's Complexity"

Scientists unravel #ecosystem secrets through #Catchment and #CriticalZone Science. By monitoring, analyzing, and experimenting within our environment, they provide insights into the sustainable management of natural resources.

The #BigData Cluster joins the other 8 clusters in the #CriticalZone Collaborative Network at #AGU23.

"Unlicensed dams can 'severely compromise the environment
Advocates say the Moorabool River in Victoria's west is facing a deepening crisis, with a reported 218 new private dams appearing in the catchment since 2012. The government should be embarrassed it took a volunteer community group to expose such a vast problem."

One of the important parts of #AGU22 is the opportunity it provides to foster collaborations. Monday evening's Town Hall meeting convened by USGS-based Jamie Shanley, who is also a Big Data Cluster collaborator, was designed to do just that.

Conveners brought together the #catchment community to brainstorm ways to expand the source and quality of data and outline future workshops to expanding knowledge of these watersheds.

I've been lurking a few days, but time for a quick #Introduction.

I'm an associate professor at University of Alberta, with research interests in #catchment and #wetland science - especially studying impacts of #climate change on the carbon and #greenhouse gas balance of northern #peatlands, and on downstream water quality.

I am currently looking for PhD or postdocs with interest in peatland GHG fluxes.

A recent story on some of the work in my group:
