#Caturday began at 5:30am this morning. Calling it a night. Looking forward to #SolarPunkSunday tomorrow. I hope folks will join me (between 11am and 5pm EDT). I'm hoping @BrambleBearGrrrauwling and @MaQuest will chime in. And anyone else who wants to post about such topics as #Degrowth, #Rewilding, #GreenCities, #Gardening, #Sustainability, #CircularEconomy, #LibraryOfThings, #RepairCafes, #Bicycles, #VisibleMending, #DIY, and more! Ideas and posts welcome!

The fenders I ordered with the help of a bike tech at Trek Bicycles in Rockville arrived, and Trek even texted me that they had come in. I am here to both praise the excellent service I had at Trek and to brag that I installed them all by myself. I even read (some of) the directions!

Now I can take the shortcut across the practice fields on my way to work and not get soaked by the dewy grass. This will save me about 1/2 mile, and allow me to commute even on wet days without soaking myself.

They surprisingly installed separated bicycle paths in my street, and also made it so that the driving area of the street is narrower. This made my street, one that has relatively a lot of car traffic, a lot better, and yet, I fucking hate how noisy the traffic is here. Even outside of the honking, just the general background noise is unpleasant.

As @notjustbikes said, cities aren't loud, cars are loud, and Berlin would be so much better if they drastically reduced, at least, the area inside the ringbahn, the amount of cars here. But with the #CDU in charge in the city, that's not going to happen.

Heads up to all walking and cycling advocates.

Parramatta City Council has opened up public consultation about its master plan for a major east–west street through its CBD: https://www.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/about-parramatta/news/media-release/share-your-vision-on-the-transformation-of-george-street

George St is particularly important, because it connects with the future Parramatta Metro Station.

It also has Parramatta Park and the famous gate houses at one end, and it also crosses both Church St and Horwood Place.

While cycling doesn't seem to be on the agenda, really this would be an ideal street to run a protected bike lane down. That would provide an east–west cycling corridor through the middle of the Parra CBD.

From the council:

"Plans to refresh Parramatta’s iconic George Street in the CBD as part of a streetscape master plan to improve the landscape and revitalise the historic neighbourhood are open for community feedback.

"The project focuses on the stretch from O’Connell Street on the west, through the future Civic Link at Horwood Place to Harris Street on the east.

"Design features include the installation of street furniture, CCTV cameras and fibre, tree planting, new granite pavers and the potential for outdoor dining and the community is invited to have their say before a draft master plan is developed."

I saw these wayfinding signs in West Melbourne pointing to the 'rainbow Bridge' that goes over the railway parallel to Dynon Rd. The bridge still isn't open, but this is a good sign that it might be soon.

I really only need three #bicycles. I need one ebike for my utility transportation needs, one fitness bicycle to burn calories, and one bicycle to be an emergency backup, which I would prefer to be a non-e bike. I would *like* to also have a second ebike identical to the first one, but that's just for convenience—I'd keep that one with Winter tires, since I am #CarFree and ride year-round.

I got a chance to take a ride over the new green bridge and it's a great preview of how depressing the Veloway is going to be.

2.5km of the same blank green walls, no awareness of time or space, no hint of progress.

It's exactly the kind of bicycle infrastructure a motorway engineer would design.
