Had an extremely brief panic upon reading the new #OmniOS release notes, before remembering that stuff like that is exactly why I make regular #backups of the entire VM so if it utterly fucks everything I can just rewind time. And then I checked, and I'm already using the new boot loader, have been for years.

I've moved here from fosstodon.org/@alanc and before that at twitter.com/alanc - you can find my previous posts there.

I'm currently a Senior Software Architect working on the #Solaris operating system at Oracle. I came up through the X11 & Desktop teams, and am still involved with packaging X11 & GNOME for Solaris, along with our overall FOSS packaging efforts.

I've been a board member & release manager for the X.Org Foundation as well, and still do many of X.Org's package releases & co-lead its security team.

I also am the Security Assurance Lead for Solaris, overseeing our efforts to prevent & fix security bugs in our software.

My professional interests not surprisingly include software security and how to improve it, C programming (and how to do better at it when we can't move away), interoperability (including improvements to the C & POSIX standards), and working with open source communities.

@ptribble I'm happy to report that I managed to boot a Tribblix m20 ISO from the USB using #Ventoy. Rufus, Balena, even good old Unetbootin did not manage. I'm happy since I do not have to burn CD-R's nor play with iPXE (tho I was prepared for it).
Unfortunately format and fdisk were to cryptic for me (also do SATA SSD's have cylinders?) so partitioning I did separately from eventual installation.
Fingers crossed I'll manage to the finish line! #Unix #Solaris #FLOSS

Okay, #Solaris 10 on the Sun Blade 150 does not detect any disks. The version I'm trying is the latest from Oracle, it detects the ancient network adapter, but I wonder if it's too new...

Wikipedia says the most recent version of Solaris 10 should work, but possibly just with net booting.
