The policy violation the students are accused of is, shall we say, interpretive. And the supposed infraction went down 4 months ago. So there is a 100% chance that the institution’s administration is sending the federal administration the fast food equivalent of fruit baskets so they no longer have to worry about all that pesky academic freedom bullshit. #Union #Fascism #AdjunctLife
I don’t see why I should have to grade all these assignments, just because I’m the one who created them, assigned them, distributed them, and insisted that students complete them.

In happier news, I'm almost done. It's exam week, final grades go in next week, and then I get a "break" to prep for the next one....
Well, this is a new frontier in online asynchronous coursework: A student just plagiarized *me* in discussion.
These kids make me question my own sanity. Half the assignments submitted didn't follow one specific direction... after looking at 5 of them I had to open my instructions in the LMS to confirm that I had actually told them to do this thing.

I just sat down to give feedback on an *ungraded* activity and quit because I'm not going to waste my day reading 100+ ChatGPT-generated responses.
Un-hecking-believable. It's not even *graded,* just "scored for your information," as they were plainly informed, and four out of the first five cheated on it.
Eff this. I sent out a polite little note to the whole class telling them if they wanted feedback, they could request it individually.
Hah. Didn't work! Still nobody came today.
Sigh.
Teaching here was difficult the first time: I imagine it will soon become intolerable. I may get up tomorrow morning and start wrapping it up.

Today a #nonbinary grad #student told me I’m the first visible nonbinary #teacher they’ve ever had, and that they’re so happy to be in my class
2nd week of the semester (remote, async program).
Went back and watched the intro video I made.
I guess i was feeling 
, cause I said:
“I don’t assign group work, and I don’t assign busy work. I take this course seriously and I want to see that you do as well. I justify the readings I assign and I encourage you to hold other instructors to similar standards if this is important to you”
The day when a four-hour teaching prep and grading session turns into having to restart the office computer once an hour because it keeps crashing on you.
When, as an #instructor, I’m #grading and feel the need to write “this is a very interesting approach to this assignment,” I really don’t mean it as a compliment

I have a key. I have been able to enter the office and explore. There are chairs. There is a phone. Keyboards and computer mouses.
Still no desks or harddrives so that I can actually do some work. But it smells nice. That’s good. Better than the opposite. @academicchatter #adjunctlife

Being an adjunct is so weird, my semester started this week and to date the only employee I’ve had a personal interaction with was the super helpful woman who certified my I-9.
No one has talked to me about the department and its mission, about the student body, about the course. No one made sure I could access canvas or zoom. No one checked my syllabus. Did I show up on the first day of class??? No one except the students has any idea.
And… I am NOT moving on to the next round of interviews for the job I super want(ed). That’s #AdjunctLife. I guess I’ll have more time to be a creator?
