Been tearing my hair out trying to get sound working in OS/2. Kept getting a weird error that it couldn't reset the card.
Booting into DOS 6.22 to validate the parameters for the card. Everything matches.
Boot back to OS/2 and bang ... Sound!
Apparently, having DOS boot and init the card fixed OS/2.

After two days of futzing with it, I finally got OS/2 booting from the CF card.
ArcaOS 5.1.1 released
It's been two years since the release of ArcaOS 5.1, which was a hugely important release because it brought UEFI support to this continuation of IBM's OS/2, ensuring longevity for the project for years to come. Since I don't think much is known about what, exactly, Arca Noae, and eComStation before it, has access to within the licensing agreement with IBM, it's difficult to ascertain just how mu
How OS/2 flop went on to shape modern #software
#Windows3 beat #OS2 because #IBM insisted that OS/2 ran on #80286, which crippled the new #OS. IBM's determination to serve its customers with 80286 PS/2s, and keep a promise, resulted in OS/2 being a failure. That is what allowed #Microsoft #Windows to gain the upper hand.
Soon after Windows 3.0 turned out to be a hit, OS/2 NT was rebranded as #WindowsNT. Even ardent Linux enthusiasts must concede Windows NT did quite well. https://go.theregister.com/feed/www.theregister.com/2025/01/05/microsoft_os2_flop_future/
I found this article about why #OS2 failed to be super interesting.

Neat OS/2 feature: The “settings” window of an icon usually shows some generic options. That’s what I’m used to these days. In OS/2, it can also show program-specific settings. The video shows me configuring two launchers for FTP-PM with different connection settings.
Digging deeper into the WPS (e.g., what do I have to do to create such a settings dialog for my own programs) is on my not-necessarily-small TODO list. I’ll get there … eventually.
How the OS/2 flop went on to shape modern software
— The Register
「 IBM made a promise, and IBM kept its promises. It shipped the PS/2 range with 286s front and center, promising OS/2 compatibility to its customers – a promise IBM wouldn't break. So it vetoed Microsoft's plan of pivoting the new OS to the 386, even if that plan was solid and motivated by the correct reasoning 」

Maybe someone can confirm or disprove the hypothesis (HLT creates exception → OS/2 inspects next opcode). It’s getting hard to find good sources on this.
I cannot overstate how interesting of a read this is!!

@WWSchoof @qwertyoruiop also it's pretty affordable and I'm pretty shure if they used #OS2 instead if #OM5 they'd constantly have to install dampeners to not burn out modules with too short fiber lenghts beibg used.
