I downloaded some software that I need to run and unfortunately it's in BIN format, not an EXE.

I haven't needed to mount an ISO or BIN file in a long time.

I know back in the day (15+ years ago) I used programs like Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools for mounting and or burning stuff like this.

Is there a newer #FOSS program that is recommended for #Windows 10 for mounting? I don't need to burn it.

Whenever #Windows force-reboots to install patches, it kills my VM Linux box where I do all my work. And I always forget to suspend it. While there are a lot of potential negatives (loss of my workspace, debug sessions, occasionally corrupting the filesystem so I have to rebuild the entire development system) the thing that bugs me most is I lose my bash command history.

There is quite a bit of buzz related to CVE-2025-24054 which covers attackers causing victims to leak NTLM hashes if they open certain files or view certain directories. In short, this forces victims running Windows to make a connection to an attacker controlled SMB share.

Note: A patch was provided by Microsoft on March 11.

If you prevent SMB traffic from leaving your networks then you don't have to worry about this unless the attacker has already setup shop in your network. Like, patch anyway but, IMO, it would be a better use of your time to ensure that outbound SMB is blocked first. Don't forget to account for mobile devices that are off-network.

Check Point Research · CVE-2025-24054, NTLM Exploit in the Wild - Check Point ResearchKey Points Introduction NTLM (New Technology LAN Manager) is a suite of authentication protocols developed by Microsoft to verify user identities and protect the integrity and confidentiality of network communications. NTLM operates through a direct client-server exchange known as the NTLM challenge/response mechanism, in which the server challenges the client to prove its identity without […]

Recently a friend of mine got a new #Windows PC for running #Cubase on it. He installed his previously used software, namely Cubase and #Voxengo audio plugins on the new box.

When he opened a Cubase project he had copied from his old PC, none of the plugins in that project were detected any more. Even though he had them installed. So he had to open the project on the old machine, write all plugin settings down to paper, re-insert the very same plugins on the new machine into the very same project and restore the settings from his notes.

I just copied an #Ardour project from #OSX to #UbuntuStudio #Linux. I use some Windows #Voxengo plugins on Linux via #LinVST, while I use native Voxengo binaries on OS X.

The Ardour project created on OS X plays on Linux out of the box, using all plugins (given they are installed).

Just one of these many details in how your #DAW does certain things.

#linux #windows #help #scp .. " .. I have two cassettes recorders ... " .. ( obscure reference ) .. no I have to computers, one runs Win11 .. one runs linux .. I have SCP on Win11 and sometime I need to copy files from Win11 into linux .. I made a very simple BATCH SCRIPT full of SCP ... .. etc. etc. .. It all works BUT any time I run it asks me for PWD for each SCP instance .. is any way to say "use this damned credentials" or something like --password = "banana" ??? ..
