Today, we announce the beta release of the Web Monetization extension, allowing for seamless micropayments powered by Interledger Wallets.

Building a federated global payment network raises a lot of questions.
@Interledger has an open call for research projects as part of its ambassador program.
I don’t decide the funding strategy, but I do have several research topics I personally think would be valuable to have formal research on.

Here is my mid-grant progress report for adding Web Monetization support to the fediverse. Working with @Interledger has been an incredible experience.
On Monday, I shared how the Interledger Foundation hopes to support the economic development of the fediverse and its creator economy.
I believe Interledger’s federated, global payment network can help fediverse server operators sustain their work and help creators be supported by the fans who love them.

This is exciting! The #Interledger Foundation has launched its FutureMoney Grant which invites artists of any discipline to envision a world where financial systems were built to serve everyone, everywhere, always. Where borders aren’t barriers to supporting each other financially as well as emotionally.
They will be funding projects at $25,000 USD over an 8 month timeline.

I have been watching the Interledger Summit 2022 session recordings incrementally over the last few weeks.
Unexpected delightful surprise was @todd presenting how @purism (the privacy-centric open source laptop and smart phone) stubbed out an entire two-sided app store marketplace based on Interledger and its related in-progress projects.
2023 is going to be breakout year for open payments.

Readers install the Coil (a WM sender) browser extension https://coil.com or use Puma Browser on mobile https://www.pumabrowser.com. Coil is $5 a month and goes to stream #micropayments via #Interledger https://interledger.org to sites that tag their pages with a valid payment pointer. WM receivers don’t have to join Coil; ILP wires them up anonymously.
