Frustrated with Google's search behavior! Just searched for "orca for linux in vmware workstation pro ubuntu choppiness" and it autocorrected to "arch for linux..." 🤦‍♀️ This is why I've switched to Perplexity for most searches. Google's assumption that it knows better than the user is so irritating. I meant Orca (the screen reader), not Arch Linux! This kind of "correction" is especially problematic for #accessibility searches.

@EU_Commission To register on the Transparency Register in Eurorpe, the @debianFR president @debian needs to use EU login (excluding Fdroid users probably, and person with so old mobile phone), but also he needs to take a snapshot of the qrcode! #europeanunion @juliemoynat @armonyaltinier @kujiu #europeancommission #european_commission #EuropeanCommissionPresident #accessibility #accessibilityfail #accessibility_concerns #a11y #A11yElders #disability #disabilityrights #citizen #citizenship

In a hurry, grabbing a couple of things to throw in my cart before time was up on my Walmart order. Two things are for shipping, arivestoday. What the hell is Arivestoday? Is that some religious holiday celebrated around Christmas time and I have been failing to wish people a happy one? And why do I care if I get them on Arivestoday? Oh! Arives today. Whew! #AccessibilityFail Happy Arivestoday to all!

Seriously, though, some of us have neurodevelopmental disabilities and need clear signage, and some of us are physically disabled and walk slowly and painfully, and this disabled person right here wouldn't even have tried to get there if the distance had been obvious from the beginning.

(This disabled person right here is also taking her business elsewhere.)

Hey #MallOfTripla, would it kill you to install more guidance screen thingies, clearer ones+easier to spot? Took me bloody ages to find the shop I was looking for, with nothing but a helpful "the shop exists" but not even on which floor, let alone how to get there from my current location.

Took me so long to get there and find my way back (not clearly marked either) that my ticket had long expired. At the very least, you owe me an HSL ABCD commuter ticket.

Google engineers see fit to document their WebP format in the document at developers.google.com/speed/we using 18 diagrams

None with alt text 😣

Worse – they’re all drawn in ASCII art 😖

Even worse – they’re semantically marked up as devsite-code, just like the actual code on that page 😫

Google – do you care about accessibility? 🤷‍♀️

I had just looked up the Google WebP container spec, as I came across another example of an image using this format in the wild and felt I should know what it is

I’m still not entirely clear of its supposed advantages over other image formats

Alas, increased accessibility (e.g. offering embedded image description) isn’t one of those advantages

Tired of places that don’t have handicapped buttons for doors. It’s so awkward to navigate my rollator without them, plus I also use a service dog, so it makes it so much harder to make sure doors don’t hit her while I’m trying to awkwardly get my rollator through. I can’t imagine how much more difficult it is for those using wheelchairs. This should not still be an issue in 2023. #Accessibility #AccessibilityFail

I had become increasingly reliant on #iOS #speech-to-text for making research notes. Sure, some things like last names required editing but generally it was quite good.

In fall 2022, everything changed: rather than a single highlighted word for possible amendment, it highlights entire phrases, usually of gibberish, but offering nothing other than more gibberish. As in, non-sober beat poet-levels of gibberish.

So, now a huge #accessibilityfail 😡

People who have access to paywalled articles/studies, and post huge chunks of text as images (on any social media platform), as part of a discussion on the topic, but who cannot be arsed, ever, to add alt-text, are, as far as I'm concerned, assholes.

Especially when they're journalists or college professors with large social media followings; don't tell me no one has suggested they make their content accessible--I can't be the only one asking them. Repeatedly.

Shopping tonight was pretty tough. The large supermarket had NO employees around to help anyone, anywhere! There were multiple items I needed, but I couldn't reach from my mobility device. Hubby was with me most of the time but at one point I went after one thing in one area while he went after another and what I went after I couldn't reach. Nobody had bothered to move the items forward on the shelves (ANY of them, anywhere!) and so many were totally inaccessible to anyone without a long arm and the physical ability to stand right against shelves and stretch back...thank God for an incredibly polite young man (college age, maybe?) who said, "I can't just walk past when you are obviously struggling, what can I do to help?" and reached the item easily, then handed it to me. YES, Virginia, there are still wonderful young people in the world!

Here's a #writing competition, closing date 26th April, theme "Inspirational women". Though to be honest I'm mostly posting this in wonderation of the lack-of-thought process whereby you put all the details into an image file instead of text even though you are (a) based in a tech incubator and (b) are an organisation whose stated purpose is as a "Platform for international dialogue and cultural exchange."
Two *big* reasons why you should know better.
