In my experience, most random readers would read the first 15 to 20 words and lose interest.
To gain readership it needs more "punch", which I think the abbreviated version(*) provides

@ColinTheMathmo In France they also fascinated the intelligent since the beginning. Some intelligent stopped because they realized in time it was incompatible with their way of life of because their friends warned them it was morally impossible.
