Talking with the folks in the local #vintage / #retrocomputing community, they clued me in that the #ThinkPad #RAID is a steaming pile of 💩 and not worth the trouble.

🤷 Oh well. Thanks for cluing me in

So I swapped out the two testing #NVMe drives I was using and reinstalled the original sticks - to have #windoz10 demanding for the #bitlocker recovery key. 🤦‍♂️

Well, time to wipe & install #windoz11 then.

Install went fine, only 4 rando #drivers to find for all #devices to be recognized and working.

Using my #CTT scripts to install the majority of applications, then to remove the #spyware #bloatware and other garbage #micro$oft added to #windows11

Then migrate my #data from my other ThinkPad. Welcome to my #sunday #funday

I've got an old #cisco #ASA 5512-x laying around that I figured might come in handy some day.

My brother recently sent me an article to a fellow who got #opnSense running on it, and of course I had to bite.

It was almost too easy! I tracked down an ancient VGA to IDC connector, installed it on the motherboard, and then changed the BIOS around to boot from a thumbdrive. OpnSense installed without issue, and BAM I have a 7-port gigabit router with a #xeon processor, 8GB of DDR3 and a 128GB SSD.

I haven't tested yet, but supposedly these bad boys can push *almost* full line speed.

Not too bad for free! It appears these can be had online for under $50 all day long.

This quilt was made in the 1970s when #liquidEmbroidery was very popular. It was made by my great Aunt Malina and there is a duplicate with green backing instead of brown. I have been using it as our couch cover for years and some of the white cotton squares have shredded.
Today I realized some upholstery sample squares I had been given years ago are the perfect size and the edges already finished. So I pinned them in place and stitched them around. #repair #wasteNotWantNot #sewing

…and there is nothing sexier than a pen that comes with a service manual and a field breakdown/lube kit!

This is the TWISBY Eco…without the T….which means it does not have the handy triangular grip.

Thought I would see how that rolls!

(See what I did there?)

Might be better for big hands. Will try to find a blue ink I don’t hate. Something like the Sailor’s dusky blue inks…but in a cheaper version.

Anyone have any suggestions for dusky blue inks?

The perfect pen (for me) is the affordable TWISBY Eco-T.

It is large enough for big hands, has the built in reservoir that means there is no messy filling or disposal of plastic cartridges…all you need is ink and paper.

Noodler’s Sequoia Green ink is a bit of a misnomer…it’s so green it’s black! But when they say it’s 3 oz, it is really like 3,5 because they come brim-full to the max…at a relatively cheap price compared to other fancier inks.

#Today no plastic was consumed to make tea…and I saved 75% by just making a conscious choice to not use pre-bagged tea.

There was a time when our products came in natural packaging…but many of those packages were replaced by plastic that is unnecessary and not easily recycled.

Snack crackers used to come wax paper wrapped in paper boxes…all either recyclable or compostable.

Tea used to come in individual serving paper bags…but now a fine PE mesh weave.

Look for the alternatives wherever you can.

That tin would hold sand sample!

#Today (but really yesterday) I built a work bench for #bonsai or #woodworking out of a BBQ base (rest recycled) and wood left over from dismantling my son’s no longer needed (or safe) tree fort.

Total cost was $0, because I used hardware from the tree fort and some new but long ago purchased long decking screws.

It is fun being cheap when it results in useable stuff!

Looking inside my fridge, I have half a bag of washed baby spinach which is looking severely lifeless. I ate half of it in salads, earlier this week.

So, I'm going to make some kind of tarka daal with chickpeas and throw in the spinach.

Nowadays, I only ever buy salad leaves I can cook with, when they start to wilt. I got annoyed at myself for constantly throwing away browning lettuce.
