The one benefit to the gigantic #tariff on #china is that it could completely destroy #temu inside the #usa which is THE WORST online retailer ever.

The only reason they are so cheap is because they sell everything at a loss right now in order to get people on board.

They're known for awful customer service, terrible delivery reliability, products that break quickly or suck entirely, selling data, exploiting OS security, and everything wrong with cheap #consumerism.

But wait. . . there's more.

FTA: "Statistics show that the poorest parts of the country have come to rely heavily on affordable goods from Chinese e-commerce sites. Especially now that the de minimis exemption has expired, Americans are now getting a rude surprise when trying to import Chinese goods."

@Christian_Freiherr_von_Wolff I would be so angry if I paid $70 for fake crystals from Amazon. Lol

Someone made a video about rocks and crystals from #temu and a lot of them were fake. Some of them were just pieces of glass pretending to be opal or something. Some of them were just regular sedimentary rocks dyed colors. Weird as hell.

Bargain Chinese retailer Temu changed its business model in the U.S. as the Trump administration’s new rules on low-value shipments took effect on Friday.

In recent days, Temu has abruptly shifted its website and app to only display listings for products shipped from U.S.-based warehouses. Items shipped directly from China, which previously blanketed the site, are now labeled as out of stock.

Oy. 🙄

#Temu is a "direct to consumer" retailer. There is no "importer". The "importer" in this case is the *consumer*. If they must raise their price to cover the #tariff, then there will be a (dramatic) corresponding loss of sales.

If the cost of doing business in America (advertising/etc) is more than they make selling fewer products, then it would actually COST THEM MONEY to continue doing business in the U.S. to a substantially smaller market.

Get it?

Actually, if #FatMasterson's #tariffs would result in #Temu *losing* money on every sale... and the alternative being raising prices and costing them more than doing business in the U.S., then *yes*, they ARE being stopped from continuing to do business in the U.S..

If they want those customers back (and they do), it makes more sense to frustrate American consumers into evoking change, then to leave them scratching their heads.

#Bezos had the right idea.

If #Temu had no interest in selling to the American public, they wouldn't have developed an app and spent tens of thousands (more?) on advertising (I can't open an "ad-supported" app on my phone w/o being bombarded with Temu ads.

If you think the loss of these sales isn't concerning them, you're nuts.
