119 years ago, April 18, 1906: M7.9 "Great San Francisco Earthquake & Fire". The quake actually struck all of coastal Northern California from a 280mi/450km rupture in the San Andreas Fault. SF water mains broke and the city couldn't put out fires that raged for days. Most other cities in the region maintained water service and extinguished their fires.
