The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has released a proposal for public comment that would expand the 438,000-acre Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Georgia by 22,000 acres.
The proposed expansion includes lands currently held by Twin Pines Minerals. This good proposal needs supportive public comments by Monday, November 18.

These photos are from the upper drainage that becomes the #SuwanneeRiver further south. There was a 0.5 - 1mph current, which actually made the canoeing *harder* in the winding parts. There were lots of alligators out sunning themselves on this 50-60 degree day.

Georgia is being run by such ignorant, short-sighted people. If this mine drains the Okefenokee, that's it. Attempts at restoration will never make it the same as it currently is. Why risk a one of a kind treasure for a material for paint that can be mined all over the planet in less sensitive areas?
