These guys are all on their way to clichéd office jobs with their clichéd props like briefcases and newspapers, and they even have clichéd wives waving goodbye to them.

I don't quite know how they're all going to fit in that autogyro-hover-thing which is presumably their bus.

I can't make out exactly what's going on behind them, there's a dome? A fishbowl?

Interesting representation of dark-skinned people for 1940 but you'd have to read the story to see if it was related to/analogous to race in the human sense.

I'm terrified of spiders, but luckily this thing doesn't really look like a spider. As is often the case with these things, she looks weirdly calm. Or maybe she's poisoned like Frodo.

Love the concept, love the monster. It's "The Purple Rose Of Cairo" but with a frog-eyed, lizard-scaled, multi-fanged and -clawed monster as the leading man.

Thrilling Wonder Stories vol. 42, no. 1 (April 1953)

Yet again, a woman trapped in a tube or capsule. It's a theme of these images and someone should be writing a PhD thesis on it.

I love the composition, how it has a distinct foreground, middle and back, each adding to the atmosphere as the sea-mountains recede in the distance.

I mean, in the law, sorry, yes. It would be his *estate* which had the rights—but seriously. I love the concept and the setup and the fact that the ghost is kind of … smoking? Evaporating?

The perspective is weird here—where's the rest of his space ship? Where would his legs go exactly? Is he lying down, kneeling? Or maybe his body just ends at the waist or merges with the ship, who can say? Lucky he's got his headlights on so he can see where he's going.

For some reason I really love this robot's head, I feel it echoes the shape of a jet engine like the ones on the planes it's shooting down. Either this thing is immense or the perspective makes no sense.

Interesting! Clearly they had illustrations which were, you know, OK, a little dull, then someone said "hey let's invert them!" and now they're much cooler and sciencefictiony.

Someone remind me to invert this whole image and reply with it so you can compare and contrast.
