Day 27
“For the first time, #GenZ and #Millennials outnumber #Boomers as the biggest voting bloc. I can’t speak for everyone, but the general mood on the ground is bleak.
Younger generations in particular are, rightfully, increasingly #disillusioned with the two-party system, which serves a dwindling minority of #morbidly wealthy players rather than the general public.
We’re tired of the mudslinging, scare campaigns, confected culture wars and other transparent political theatrics that incite division while distracting the public and media from legitimate critical issues. We don’t need games. We need bold, urgent, sweeping economic and social reforms. There’s frankly no time for anything else.
Last year was officially the hottest on record globally, exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. #Multinational #FossilFuel #corporations continue to pillage our #resources and coerce our elected officials while paying next to #NoTax.” — #GraceTame

You don’t say! This piece on how Gen Z gets its news (and #misinformation) from #TikTok is eye-opening, but not surprising. Maybe I’m showing my age, but critical thinking has never been more urgent. #GenerationalBias #GenZ

"While social media may make news more accessible, there’s also little quality control to the information on the platforms. And although people of all ages are bad at detecting misinformation — which is only getting harder amid the rise of AI — members of Gen Z are particularly vulnerable to being fooled. Why? There’s a dangerous feedback loop at play. Many young people are growing deeply skeptical of institutions and more inclined toward conspiracy theories, which makes them shun mainstream news outlets and immerse themselves in narrow online communities — which then feeds them fabrications based on powerful algorithms and further deepens their distrust. It’s the kind of media consumption that differs drastically from older generations who spend far more time with mainstream media, and the consequences can be grim."

“There is this myth of the digital native, that because some people have grown up with digital devices, they are well equipped to make sense of the information that those devices provide,” says Joel Breakstone, who led the 2021 study. “The results were sobering.”

How Generation Z became the most gullible generation, from @politico
"The almighty algorithm is fueling conspiracy theories among young people and ruining their ability to tell fact from fiction on the internet."
An Alarming Number of Gen Z AI Users Think It's Conscious
The majority of young people use AI, and they try to be polite when interacting with chatbots like ChatGPT, but some might have too much of an attachment to it, according to a new study.

In this #GenZ poll on politics:
“Nearly three quarters of its 1,286 respondents said elected leaders should not be able to go above the law.”
What the hell did the other 25% believe!? (The article doesn’t say, but I think that’s really important) Is a quarter of the GenZ population favoring lawless leaders?

"Thousands of gen Z students in Greater Manchester are to learn “soft skills” such as empathy and time-management in a UK-first trial aimed at teaching “everyday but essential” tools... It aims to reach 10,000 young people in the city-region by September and has partnered with a number of higher education providers, including the University of Manchester, University of Salford and Manchester Metropolitan University."
