Anne Deschaine<p>The leader of my Tuesday palaeography group set us a little challenge: attempt a flourished signature in the style of early modern English letters. I have tipped past the point of "ooh, how fun!" to "do I have time to cure and cut a quill before meeting, because that MUST be the key". 😭 </p><p>And no, I will not be attempting my too-many-curves surname today. 😖 </p><p>[Original example on left, my increasingly frustrated attempts on right]</p><p><a href="https://zirk.us/tags/paleography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>paleography</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/palaeography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>palaeography</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/calligraphy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>calligraphy</span></a></p>
Anne Deschaine<p>Definitely asked before, but what are your recommended applications (or homegrown systems/procedures) for palaeographical transcription?</p><p>Most of what I've done has been in in-house repositories, FromThePage, etc. I have some projects coming up where I need to be more self-hosted, as it were. I currently use a Mac, and my potential list includes Tropy, GenScriber, and Transcript.</p><p>Thoughts? Comments? Recommendations?</p><p><a href="https://zirk.us/tags/palaeography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>palaeography</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/paleography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>paleography</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/archives" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>archives</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/manuscripts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>manuscripts</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/genealogy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>genealogy</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/transcription" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>transcription</span></a></p>
