brettMy home network needs to get a bit more complicated and I'm thinking about making a combined server/rack thing out of 2020 extrusion. Not too worried about keeping to standards since I'd be printing/lasercutting plates etc. Any thoughts?<br><br><a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/homelab" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#homelab</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/minirack" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#minirack</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/projects" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#projects</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/lasercutting" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#lasercutting</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/3dprinting" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#3dprinting</a>

SEA_Allen<p>I designed a mini server rack with slots for 5 drawers. It has drawers to hold a PoE switch, Raspberry Pis, and an SSD as well as covers for empty slots. It is assembled with M4 heat set inserts and screws. It features 120mm fans on each side (one in and one out) to keep everything cool. The feet are printed in TPU for vibration dampening. </p><p><a href="https://makerworld.com/en/models/1151662#profileId-1155960" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">makerworld.com/en/models/11516</span><span class="invisible">62#profileId-1155960</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/freecad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freecad</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>3dprinting</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/minirack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>minirack</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/networking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>networking</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/maker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>maker</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/design" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>design</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/raspberrypi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>raspberrypi</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a></p>
Magnus Hedemark<p>I did have thoughts of doing a <a href="https://pompat.us/tags/raspberrypi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RaspberryPi</span></a> based <a href="https://pompat.us/tags/minirack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>minirack</span></a> cluster, but the Pi is no longer cost-effective. The one and only saving grace that keeps this option in-play is <em>rack density</em>. I can fit 4 pi's in 2U of mini-rack space. I halfway wonder if I could double that density by using the front &amp; back of the rack (but these things are <em>shallow</em> so I'd have to measure to be sure). The N100 mini PC's give way more bang for the buck, but don't rack up very densely.</p>
Magnus Hedemark<p>My <a href="https://pompat.us/tags/3dprinter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>3DPrinter</span></a> has been humming for a couple of days, cranking out accessories to help me populate my first 10 inch <a href="https://pompat.us/tags/minirack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>minirack</span></a>. This rack is going to be set up mainly as a <a href="https://pompat.us/tags/dockerswarm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DockerSwarm</span></a> with 1L mini PC's. The rack will have a 10Gbe uplink to another switch that currently has a (10Gbe-connected) Synology NAS.</p>
