Futuristic Robert [KJ5ELX] :donor:<p>My HackRF One was working fine last night. Now how did I manage to fry a ground filter? Oh and of course the USB port is dead on the PC. Fortunately my iCOM 7100’s USB interface is fine.</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/hackrfone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hackrfone</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/radio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>radio</span></a></p>
Jens Hannemann<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@Moosader" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Moosader</span></a></span> Do it. Renewal is cheap and you won’t need to retake the test. Point to point communication will be useful, even if you cannot legally encrypt it. Familiarize yourself with SDR, in particular the <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/HackRFOne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HackRFOne</span></a> made by <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@GreatScottGadgets" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>GreatScottGadgets</span></a></span></p>
Jens Hannemann<p>1. Good department meeting with the dean today.<br>2. Ordered a lot of hardware for next semester’s classes.<br>3. Got <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/GnuRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GnuRadio</span></a> working natively on my ARM Mac with my <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/HackRFOne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HackRFOne</span></a>. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/ThreeGoodThings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ThreeGoodThings</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/threegoodthings" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>threegoodthings</span></a></span></p>
Great Scott Gadgets<p>Our December 2023 recipient for Free Stuff is a STEM Camp where students will have the opportunity to use the requested HackRF One to do a quantum physics experiment with laser light and modulated RF. <a href="https://greatscottgadgets.com/2024/05-08-free-stuff-december-2023/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">greatscottgadgets.com/2024/05-</span><span class="invisible">08-free-stuff-december-2023/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/hackrf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hackrf</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/hackrfone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hackrfone</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/greatscottgadgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>greatscottgadgets</span></a></p>

Jens Hannemann<p>OK, I did my double-slit experiment using narrow-band <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/FM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FM</span></a> transmission on the 23 cm <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> band using a <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/HackRFOne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HackRFOne</span></a> and an RTL <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/SDR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SDR</span></a>. Raw data looks inconclusive, but I'll have to plot it to see what's going on. I hope I can see at least a little interference pattern. If not, I'll try the anechoic chamber to check under ideal conditions.</p>
Jens Hannemann<p>I finally built the screen for my double slit experiment. Time to fire up that trusty <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/HackRFOne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HackRFOne</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/SDR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SDR</span></a>. If my math is right, at 23cm wavelength we should see a separation of the interference fringes of 1.15 m at a distance of 1 m behind the screen. I just hope edge diffraction and multipath is not going to totally kill it. Will find out hopefully tomorrow. If it works, it'll be a nice assignment for my students. If not, I'll have to stick to boring old lasers.</p>
Jens Hannemann<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://allthingstech.social/@kylewritescode" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>kylewritescode</span></a></span> Hang in there, my friend.</p><p>As for me, I’ll try to do the double slit experiment on the 23 cm <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> band using an old Covid barrier wrapped in aluminum foil. The idea is to demonstrate interference, edge diffraction, and multi path propagation to my students. No idea whether this will work in our lab/classrooom with the el cheapo RTL <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/SDR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SDR</span></a> receivers and the <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/HackRFOne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HackRFOne</span></a> I have. I shall <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/FAFO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FAFO</span></a>.</p>
Jens Hannemann<p>I was able to finally score a <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/HackRFOne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HackRFOne</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/SoftwareDefinedRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SoftwareDefinedRadio</span></a>. Not easy to come by in these days of the <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/chipShortage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chipShortage</span></a>. Working great so far with my <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/MacBook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacBook</span></a>, with the software installed from <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/MacPorts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPorts</span></a>. Now on to some adventures with <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/DigitalSignalProcessing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalSignalProcessing</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/gnuRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gnuRadio</span></a> <br> <br><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/SDR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SDR</span></a> DSP <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/STEM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>STEM</span></a></p>
Kadin<p>Any <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/radio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>radio</span></a> enthusiasts want to suggest a good <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/SDR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SDR</span></a> for someone looking to move up from cheap RTL-SDR dongles to something that transmits?</p><p>I'd like to learn more about modern digital RF, particularly cellular and spread-spectrum waveforms… so initially I started looking at the <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/LimeSDR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LimeSDR</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/BladeRF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BladeRF</span></a> type units. (The <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/HackRFOne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HackRFOne</span></a> is neat, but can't do full duplex…)</p><p>What about the ADALM-PLUTO (and clones), though? It's cheaper and seems to be a favorite of the <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/AMSAT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AMSAT</span></a> folks.</p>
Straithe<p>A favourite part of my job is that I get to give Great Scott Gadgets hardware to people and groups that are actively working on contributing to their community. I spend hours every month sorting through applications to pick one that will make a difference to research, accessibility, and making events happen.</p><p>Most of the applications I have received aren't incredibly inspiring. The current applications lack a descriptive motivation, don't elaborate on how a device that is received will be used, and they lack flair.</p><p>I know many of you are creative, thoughtful, and well-connected people. If you want free Great Scott Gadgets hardware fill out the free stuff form below, or if you know someone who would be a good applicant please share it with them. Help me make a bigger impact with this program. <a href="https://greatscottgadgets.com/freestuff/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">greatscottgadgets.com/freestuf</span><span class="invisible">f/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/opensourcehardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opensourcehardware</span></a> <br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/greatscottgadgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>greatscottgadgets</span></a><br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/hackrf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hackrf</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/hackrfone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hackrfone</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/greatfet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>greatfet</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/greatfetone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>greatfetone</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/yardstickone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>yardstickone</span></a></p>
