UmWerker 🕊 ☮️ 🤘<p>Last night I saw an exciting <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/YouTube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>YouTube</span></a> video from <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/DistroTube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DistroTube</span></a> that convinced me to try <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/emacs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>emacs</span></a> in the <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/doom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doom</span></a> version again. Yes, I was one of those simpletons who thought emacs was "just" an editor like <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/vim" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vim</span></a>. Shame on me and you can all laugh mockingly.</p><p>The video also showed the first steps. I managed to do that with a few pull-ups. <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/emms" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>emms</span></a> plays music, although a long list with thousands of music tracks is not comfortable. And <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/RSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RSS</span></a> <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/feeds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>feeds</span></a> work too, even if I'm still struggling with the operation. Conclusion so far: it still needs some getting used to. <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/Arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Arch</span></a></p>
<a href="https://todon.nl/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/Arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Arch</span></a></p>

éric 🚲 🇪🇺 :emacs:<p>Am I the only one that finds the increasing use of *transient* in <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Emacs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Emacs</span></a> intrusive and/or annoying? I know I'm old-skool but I kind of like the invisible interface in modes like <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/gnus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gnus</span></a> and <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/emms" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>emms</span></a> where I can type a sequence of keys to get what I need done without a popup appearing. There's always `C-h` at hand to help if I need it.</p><p>Transient does have its place of course, e.g. <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/magit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>magit</span></a> which would be impossible to use otherwise but that's more a reflection on <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/git" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>git</span></a> than anything else.</p>
Kellerman Raynberg<p>Since I made a decision to listen to music from my computer and so I immediately started looking for information whether it can be done through Emacs. After studying a couple of comments on Reddit and reading a couple of articles, I decided to use the standard Emms.</p><p>So far it looks pretty good and even minimalistic. I think it will be enough for me.</p><p>As backend for Emms I use vlc.</p><p><a href="https://functional.cafe/tags/emacs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>emacs</span></a> <a href="https://functional.cafe/tags/emms" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>emms</span></a> <a href="https://functional.cafe/tags/vlc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vlc</span></a></p>
