Queen of Hay Fever<p>The <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/ContinuousGlucoseMonitor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ContinuousGlucoseMonitor</span></a> failed after just a couple of days. So we're back to finger sticking. And feeling like I'm in the dark on where she is, blood-sugar-wise.</p>
jeanoappleseed<p>For decades, I ate Grape Nuts for breakfast. <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Eggs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Eggs</span></a> were off limits due to <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/HighCholesterol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HighCholesterol</span></a>. When I discovered I had <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/ElevatedGlucose" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ElevatedGlucose</span></a>, I had to cut carbs. No Grape Nuts in 6 months now!</p><p>I easily eat 18 eggs a weeks!! And my cholesterol is the best it's ever been! I’m gobsmacked. It's like my glucose issues (though barely scratching the surface) were affecting my cholesterol. And my glucose is too under control.</p><p>But the insurance no longer wants to pay for the <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/CGM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CGM</span></a> (<a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/ContinuousGlucoseMonitor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ContinuousGlucoseMonitor</span></a>) which is the tool that has allowed me to get my blood in such perfect condition - overall BEST TESTS in about 30 years. They don't want to pay because I'm not diabetic. At least not technically. Though I've never done an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test.</p><p>However, certain foods I must avoid completely or my glucose spikes and start going like a roller coaster. And they haven't told me what that is. To me, it sounds like, you know… diabetes… </p><p>But the A1C test is now normal (was pre-diabetic). But it's normal because the CGM shows me when I don't eat the right things/quantities/combinations. And it's allowing me to learn. Could it be that I am beginning to be diabetic but able to manage it because of the sensor? </p><p>And the endocrinologist I had gone to see has quit. Not that she was that useful. So checking again with my doctor</p>

jeanoappleseed<p>Wearing a <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/ContinuousGlucoseMonitor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ContinuousGlucoseMonitor</span></a> aka <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/CGM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CGM</span></a> for the last 10 days has been a true adventure and realization that <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Diabetes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Diabetes</span></a> is a very complicated condition. I “only” have <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/PreDiabetes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PreDiabetes</span></a> or so I’m told but just preventing my glucose spikes &amp; lows has been SO challenging. </p><p>When I first saw the spikes I was shocked. But cutting carbs that were causing them proved to be quite complicated. And then as my glucose seem to level off, I didn’t feel so good and even went into arrhythmia yesterday which is rather rare for me. </p><p>I also discovered that there could be many reasons why this occurs. I am so happy that I am booked to see an endocrinologist even though it’s only in January. But now I’m also trying to move the appointment sooner. </p><p>I bet many non-diabetics like me have an overly simplistic view of this condition for which there can be, it sounds like, many causes. </p><p>I thought eating a <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/HeartHealthy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HeartHealthy</span></a> diet was challenging but I think I’m about to discover something even more tricky.</p><p>I’m trying to stay calm but I’ll admit it hasn’t been easy. </p><p>Regarding my pre-diabetes I feel that being told to eat less bread and pasta was not useful advice. There seem to be an assumption I was not eating well. </p><p>Fortunately I have a referral to have this looked into. I cannot wait.</p>
Angela<p>Regarding funding for <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/continuousglucosemonitor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>continuousglucosemonitor</span></a> , this is the latest from a friend whose kid is effected:</p><p>(Great communication from the Ministry, huh? 😡) <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/nzpol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nzpol</span></a></p>
Dave Mackey<p>is anyone using a <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/ContinuousGlucoseMonitor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ContinuousGlucoseMonitor</span></a> for <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/QuantifiedSelf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QuantifiedSelf</span></a> / general <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/health" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>health</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/monitoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>monitoring</span></a> purposes? If so, what are you using?</p><p>Also, curious if anyone is using <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Veri" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Veri</span></a>? Their plan seems by far the lowest in cost but what about the quality?</p><p>Also if you have <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/diabetes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>diabetes</span></a> and are using a <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/CGM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CGM</span></a> I'd be interested to hear about your experiences with it as well. 🙂 </p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/question" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>question</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/medical" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>medical</span></a></p>
