Dr Micha Campbell<p>Another excellent edition of Quaternary Australasia is out! I always enjoy the post-conference student reports, especially when the students seem to have really gotten into the 'AQUA vibe'! </p><p><a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/AusQuaternary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AusQuaternary</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/QuaternaryScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QuaternaryScience</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Palaeoclimate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Palaeoclimate</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/paleoclimate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>paleoclimate</span></a></p>
Andy Baker<p>Dating Speleothems and Speleothem&nbsp;Growth</p><p>On Sunday I was invited to give a Science Forum webinar to the Australasian Cave and Karst Management Association. The topic was 'Dating Speleothems and Speleothem Growth'. The recording is now up on the ACKMA website. Although the talk was aimed as cave managers and guides, I hope it will be useful for anyone interested in caves and how they can be dated, as well as educators in the field of landscape evolution, Quaternary Science, stalagmite paleoclimate and caves and karst geomorphology.</p><p><a href="http://andy-baker.org/2024/07/31/dating-speleothems-and-speleothem-growth/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">http://</span><span class="ellipsis">andy-baker.org/2024/07/31/dati</span><span class="invisible">ng-speleothems-and-speleothem-growth/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/caves" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>caves</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/karst" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>karst</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/stalagmites" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>stalagmites</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>science</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/QuaternaryScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QuaternaryScience</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/earthscience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>earthscience</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/geology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>geology</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/geochronology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>geochronology</span></a></p>
Dr Emma Rehn<p>For our final, lucky last trip into the Quaternary Australasia archive, we're going back to just last year (vol 39 no 1). I loved reading these stories compiled by Rachel Rudd of times when fieldwork didn't go to plan, but turned out okay</p><p>You can read the full article on p.18: <a href="https://aqua.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/1934-AQUA-Quaternary-Vol-39-July-2022.pdf" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">aqua.org.au/wp-content/uploads</span><span class="invisible">/2022/06/1934-AQUA-Quaternary-Vol-39-July-2022.pdf</span></a></p><p>Thanks for following along over the last few months, and happy 40th anniversary, Quaternary Australasia! <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/QuaternaryScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QuaternaryScience</span></a></p>
Dr Emma Rehn<p>As we near the end of our journey into the Quaternary Australasia archive, we're in 2010 (vol 27 no 2) reading about the AQUA conference on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). Next year's conference will be there again!</p><p>Full issue here: <a href="https://aqua.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/QA_Vol-27_No-2_Dec-2010.pdf" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">aqua.org.au/wp-content/uploads</span><span class="invisible">/2013/06/QA_Vol-27_No-2_Dec-2010.pdf</span></a></p><p>Next week will be the last dive into the archive, as the 40th anniversary issue (vol 40 no 2) will be released! <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/QuaternaryScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QuaternaryScience</span></a></p>
Andy Baker<p>If you are interested in paleoclimate, Quaternary environments, cave science or speleothem science, this pre-print might be of interest</p><p>The global speleothem isotope database SISAL has been updated to version 3. The oxygen and carbon isotope data included in previous versions of the database have been substantially expanded.</p><p>SISALv3, contains speleothem data from 364 sites from across the globe, including 94 Mg/Ca, 83 Sr/Ca, 51 Ba/Ca, 25 U/Ca, 29 P/Ca and 14 Sr-isotope records. The database also has increased spatiotemporal coverage for stable oxygen (831) and carbon (588) isotope records compared to SISALv2. </p><p>Want to read more?
