Marek Gluza
We proposed a new way of implementing quantum signal processing even though we didn't plan for it https://scirate.com/arxiv/2504.01077

In most applications, a matrix exponential $e^A$ is defined by an infinite series in A which cannot be truncated without making an error. Nilpotent matrices form an exception and usually the story ends there. My collaborator Yudai Suzuki noticed that if we exponentiate an antihermitian commutator of any rank-1 matrix with some other matrix H then we get a unitary whose exponential series can be truncated exactly.

This was our starting point, basically Prop. B.2 in the screenshot. If you have a moment (or like chess) have a think: How would you use it? Hold on to your answer because maybe you got an idea which we failed to see.

Our finding is that Prop. B.2 can be used to implement transformations of states given by matrix-valued polynomials. This is the setting of quantum signal processing, only based on the Hamiltonian simulation oracle rather than the block-encoding or LCU oracles which are the base for the established QSP implementation approaches. In our paper linked above we provide a complete framework for QSP.

Exponentials of commutators like in Prop. B.2 facilitate the implementation and there's no measurements. So no post-selection is used which is striking because its success probability tends to 'leak' out exponentially with the degree of the input polynomial. Our implementation 'leaks' in the sense of circuit depth which will grow exponentially with polynomial degree. This will be the main limiting factor for our #quantum algorithm DB-QSP but it can be used to implement a portion of QSP and then the established methods will have an easier job.
