bignose<p>It's no slight on the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a> maintainers that the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/OpenPGP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenPGP</span></a> system is inadequate. They have correctly sounded the alarm, they're right that the system has lots of problems and should be replaced.</p><p>What I do fault the Python maintainers for, is dismissing valid concerns about GitHub and Google, by recommending them as replacement. Adding your blog to my RSS feeds right now. I think Substack is a symptom of a larger problem...the replacement of blogs with 'newsletters.' I hate this trend even more then the so-called "pivot to video," not because I have anything against the newsletter concept, but because in terms of implementation blogs were (technically are) a protocol, and newsletters mostly are on one of two platforms, and Medium, quite frankly, is going the way of MySpace. Because the platform corporations are better served by a non-free app store, a non-free surveillance maze, a non-free refusal to interoperate with tools that better serve us.</p><p>We have good operating systems for these devices, right now.
