Chipotle Axelotl (aka Julian)<p>Hi, question for the <a href="https://beige.party/tags/listenBrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>listenBrainz</span></a> and <a href="https://beige.party/tags/musicBrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>musicBrainz</span></a> community. Do you know of any side projects to create recommendations for a specific track?</p><p>I'd love to be able to select a currently playing track and see if it's been remixed, who it samples, if it's been covered, similar bands etc. I know that much of this could be done via the MusicBrainz API, but it's beyond my programming skills and feels like something that some genius may have solved already.</p>
Doof<p>I found a free/open-source alternative to rateyourmusic/musicboard called critiquebrainz. It is run by musicbrainz. But sadly the community is very small. It barely gets one review a day.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/MusicBrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicBrainz</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/MusicReviews" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicReviews</span></a></p>
Sigmundur<p>So <a href="https://radikal.social/tags/underscores" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>underscores</span></a> released a new song with <a href="https://radikal.social/tags/umru" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>umru</span></a> called "Poplife".</p><p>And I may be listening to it on repeat lol.</p><p><a href="https://radikal.social/tags/ListenBrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ListenBrainz</span></a> <a href="https://radikal.social/tags/MusicBrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicBrainz</span></a> <a href="https://radikal.social/tags/Poplife" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Poplife</span></a></p>
🧚‍♀️ Fae of the Starlight ✨<p>Phew that was a lot but we updated the <a href="https://weirder.earth/tags/MusicBrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicBrainz</span></a> entry for the <a href="https://weirder.earth/tags/CassetteBeasts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CassetteBeasts</span></a> Original Soundtrack (<a href="https://joelbaylis.bandcamp.com/album/cassette-beasts-original-soundtrack" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">joelbaylis.bandcamp.com/album/</span><span class="invisible">cassette-beasts-original-soundtrack</span></a>). Now we have to wait for it to be accepted, hope it is!</p>
MusicBrainz<p>I maintain that audiobook/drama editing is one of the most satisfying things to edit in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MusicBrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicBrainz</span></a>. Now it’s even better - and podcasts have been formally added into the fold.</p><p>Listeners of words, come get those mouth sounds tagged and catalogued! -a</p><p><a href="https://blog.metabrainz.org/2025/04/17/updates-to-audiobooks-audio-dramas-broadcasts-and-podcasts/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">blog.metabrainz.org/2025/04/17</span><span class="invisible">/updates-to-audiobooks-audio-dramas-broadcasts-and-podcasts/</span></a></p>
;)</p><p><a href="https://musicbrainz.org/artist/fb7244c6-0fa9-46d4-b4f1-0c7495d7c071" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">musicbrainz.org/artist/fb7244c</span><span class="invisible">6-0fa9-46d4-b4f1-0c7495d7c071</span></a></p><p><a href="https://rheinhessen.social/tags/Mundart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mundart</span></a> <a href="https://rheinhessen.social/tags/Rheinhessen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rheinhessen</span></a> <a href="https://rheinhessen.social/tags/Rheinhessisch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rheinhessisch</span></a> <a href="https://rheinhessen.social/tags/MusicBrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicBrainz</span></a> <a href="https://rheinhessen.social/tags/Metadaten" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metadaten</span></a></p>

Flaky<p>It's a bit funny that the reason I'm working on a plugin for MusicBee and coding it in Windows/Visual Studio, is so my workflow of transferring music metadata to MusicBrainz can be done on Linux lol.</p><p><a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/MusicBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicBee</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/MusicBrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicBrainz</span></a></p>
Colin<p>For you music library folks, how is something being "higher quality" determined exactly? <br>I sure hope it's not purely looking at file size or codec/bitrate. </p><p>One other huge factor I consider is how the song is mastered/mixed. <br>Can it compare the waveform and spectrogram of a track and see if it has been loudness-warred / peaked-out / dynamic range crushed? <br>Can it show that stuff to you or does it do that or does it not do ANY of that? </p><p><a href="https://birdbutt.com/tags/MusicBrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicBrainz</span></a> <a href="https://birdbutt.com/tags/Lidarr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lidarr</span></a></p>

Kate<p>ugh i hate it so much that there are three variants:<br>Jean-Michel Jarre (standard hyphen/minus sign)<br>Jean‐Michel Jarre (non-standard hyphen)<br>Jean Michel Jarre (space lol)</p><p><a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/jellyfin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jellyfin</span></a> really doesn't cope well with this. i managed to edit all the metadata in all files to always use the standard hyphen, but because <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/musicbrainz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>musicbrainz</span></a> has releases with all three variants it just gets messy.</p><p>maybe it's better to disable the metadata fetching in jellyfin, as my ripping software already does it for me anyway (which it also uses musicbrainz) and then i can manually fix it up later.</p>

Sam Whited<p>Update on the scripts for sorting huge amounts of music downloaded from the Internet Archive: I added a plugin for MusicBrainz Picard (a metadata/tag editor / music lookup tool) to load metadata from the Internet Archive's meta.xml files before doing the lookup.
