Birk Marold
Okay I think it was a total mistake trying to upgrade the small #3018 #cnc to have flood cooling. While I did build a aluminium enclosure for the machine it still seems way too messy. I'd need to put the cube on feet and build a additional cube below that would serve as trough. As the top cube is layered with acoustic dampening tiles so it's as quiet as a 3D printer, it's so messy when these things get wet.

Also against everything I have read online so far on how to best mill aluminium, the results always sucked and had been too Inaccurate. Milling more than 0.3mm width always lead to too much vibration, no matter the depth or tool width or feed rate or tool speed, unless I really had it on the lowest feed rate which is at 50-100mm / min.

Having the tool speed low to not have chips fuse to the mill bit made sense though i thought....

Well I was testing all day and with a 4mm 3 flute I can actually put the feed rate at 1000mm/min with the tool speed at 20k rpm and cut even 3mm deep as long as the cutting width is 0.1-0.2mm at max and the cut gets shiny smooth.

You do see it being a bit unevenly, bit moving across it with my fingernail I can't feel any roughness at all.

Downside is that I just disassembled the vacuum setup and the chips now are 3mm long needles with 0.1mm in diameter and create a huge mess.

#milling #sainsmart #genmitsu #diy #machining
